The leadership and members of market association in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have been tasked by the leadership and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the council, to ensure that the party record massive votes in the forthcoming July 12 Council Elections.

The party gave the charge at the formal presentation of the party’s candidates and campaign to the leadership of the association held at the Miksson Onas Event Hall, Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road, Igbogbo, on Wednesday.

The party candidates presented to the market leaders led by Chief (Mrs) Ashake Modinat Shonubi – Wahab, the Iyaloja -General, Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Prince (Hon.) Jimoh Ogunmuyiwa, the Babaloja -General, were Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), APC Chairmanship candidate, and Barr. Ade Ayeni, Vice Chairmanship candidate.

Also presented were councillorship candidates: Hon. Basirat Banjoko, (C1), Hon. Akeem Solawon (C2), Princess Adeoba Adeyemi (C3), Mr Yusuf Bello (C4) and Hon. Adekunle Anifowoshe (C5).

Hammed Aroyewun, speaking, thanked the leadership and members of the association for their support and roles in his emergence, assuring them that if elected, his administration shall deliver good governance and ensure that the market association is giving its due recognition.

“I am here to thank you and not to bore you with speech, because you deserve to be thanked. Olojas (members of the market association) played a very important role in my emergence as the candidate of our great party, APC. I received prayers from them on the road and everywhere they meet me.

“So, I am here with the party and my team to thank you. I also thank you for your contributions to the development of our party and service to our community, because the bulk of the people that play major roles in these are women, especially those in market association.

“I want to thank and congratulate you that it is your time and you shall reap the labour of your sweat”, the Chairmanship candidate said.

On his agenda for Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Aroyewun said that he has on his own decided to give the association a bus.

“We went for a state function on Tuesday, and the Iyaloja General was also in attendance. It was at that function that I made a pledge with God about one of the things that I want to achieve, especially for the market association, which is to give you an official bus. This, I will do by the special grace of God.

“This, I have made peace with and take as a pledge, but I will not tell you when we are bringing the bus. It would just come as a surprise.

“We want to deliver a good and responsive government that would make you proud of us and make people refer to us as very well – trained children of marketers. I want to place importance on Olojas just like when President Bola Tinubu was the governor of Lagos State and you are still referring to him till these days”, he said.

He also pledged to improve on the business support/empowerment for traders and focus on inner roads.

“I am not here to promise what we will not be able to do. Another thing that we intend to do is to give financial support to the traders in form of business support which the current administration is doing, but we want to improve on that and we also want to ensure that it spreads across the markets.

“In this our area which is tagged rural, we all know that we are faced with challenges in respect of roads but the truth is that we cannot do it all as a local government, but one thing that I want to assure you of is that we would relieve our CDAs and CDC in terms of road grading. We want to do a major work in this regard. We want to buy grader which we would deploy to your areas free of charge.

“We are appreciative of Rep. Babajimi Benson and Sen. Abiru that have been intervening in the area of construction of major roads. While we have seen Sen. Abiru constructing the road that lead into Agunfoye, Rep. Benson is responsible for the construction of Ogunlewe Road, Igbe and he is the one that is also constructing Offin/Oreta, Olu – Odo and others. In our own part, we want to concentrate on inner roads that link these major roads to make our roads motorable.

“We are going to work on the Oluwo Amoju before this year runs out”, he assured.

Also part of his agenda, as announced, is the creation of new markets and redevelopment of the existing ones. He appealed for support from the market association in terms of massive votes for himself and other candidates of the party.

“On market, we also plan to develop new markets, especially where we don’t have any at the moment. We might not be able to build big ones but we shall construct new ones that would at least start trading activities in locations that they are needed.

“We also intend to redeveloped the existing ones, especially those that are needing our attentions.

“My appeal is that we want you to use your votes to tell our party that they have given the ticket to your son by turning out en mass to vote for me and other members of our party. We don’t want you to just vote alone but also call out your family members and canvass others to do the same too”, Aroyewun appealed.

Hon. Gbenga Oshin, Director – General, Local Government Elections Committee, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, urged members of the market association to ensure that APC records massive votes.

“The votes that we recorded before cannot take us anywhere again. At the moment, we have been given the mandate to deliver maximum votes across the 133 polling units in Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA. We need these votes to negotiate developments and also as criteria for the attainment of a full council status.

He charged residents that their PVCs have not been changed from their old place of residence, and directed them to go and vote in their old places of abode and vote APC.

He assured them that Aroyewun would build on what Builder Sesan Daini is doing and will even do better.

Speaking earlier, the APC Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Hon. Taiwo Orenuga who himself a former Secretary to the market association in Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, thanked members of the association for their support for the party.

He presented the Chairmanship, Vice Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates as children of market leaders and assured them that they would give them good governance.

The party chairman urged the market leaders to persuade their members to vote massively for the APC. He added that it is through the vote that the council can demand for development from both the state and federal government.

Chief (Mrs) Ashake Modinat Shonubi Wahab, the Iyaloja General, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, thanked the APC Chairmanship candidate, others and the party for the visit and confirmed that most of the candidates are sons and daughters of traders.

She thanked the incumbent Chairman, Builder Sesan Daini, for the development that the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA has witnessed during his administration, especially regarding market.

She referenced the building of an ultra – modern Adeboruwa market, new market at Oreta and other locations. She also commended his intervention in terms of security in markets and the construction of a new Adeboruwa Palace

Iyaloja General charged the APC chairmanship candidate to emulate and improve on what the outgoing Chairman has done and improved on them.

She urged him to also be active and be a good ambassador of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA in Lagos State, country and in the global village.

On his promises, Chief (Mrs) Wahab urged the candidate to ensure that he fulfills all his promises to the market association and the council at large.

She sought the assistance of the chairmanship candidate for building a secretariat for the association.

Special prayers were offered for the Chairmanship candidate during the meeting.
