The representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Rep. Babajimi Benson, has saluted the resilience of Nigerians, both home and abroad, for their commitment towards sustaining democracy in the country.
Benson, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Defense, also stated that the historic day is a significant one when Nigerians, irrespective of their background and beliefs, voted to entrench democracy but was disrupted by the military.
The third – term lawmaker stated this in a statement today commemorating the 32nd anniversary of June 12 which has been declared as Democracy Day in the country.

“Today, as we mark Democracy Day 2025, I join millions of Nigerians, at home and in the diaspora, to salute the enduring spirit of our people and the unyielding commitment we have collectively shown towards preserving and advancing democratic governance in our beloved country.
“June 12 is more than a date on the calendar – it is a powerful symbol of the sacrifices made by heroes and heroines of democracy, and a solemn reminder of our shared responsibility to uphold the principles of freedom, justice and the rule of law.

“I extend my deepest appreciation to the great people of Ikorodu Federal Constituency for their unwavering support, civic engagement and active participation in the democratic process. Your resilience, enlightenment and belief in good governance continue to inspire my commitment to legislative excellence and people-centered representation”, he said.
Rep. Benson commended Nigerians for their patience, making leaders accountable and pursuing unity.
In like manner, the federal legislator also extended his appreciation to President Tinubu, for deepening democracy.

“To all Nigerians, I commend your patience, strength and the patriotic spirit with which you have embraced democratic values despite the challenges. Democracy thrives when citizens hold leaders accountable, demand transparency and strive for national unity, and Nigerians have done just that.
“I also use this moment to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his continued efforts in deepening democratic ideals, promoting national development and safeguarding the integrity of our institutions. His leadership reflects a clear vision for a stronger, more inclusive and progressive Nigeria.

“As we commemorate this day, let us remember that democracy is a journey, not a destination. It requires our collective vigilance, our daily commitment and our refusal to retreat in the face of adversity. Let us continue to nurture it with dialogue, tolerance, participation and service.
“May the sacrifices of the past never be in vain, and may our future as a democratic nation be ever brighter.
“Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria!”.
