2024 World Theatre Day: LASG Reaffirms Support For Creative Industry

Lagos State Government has once again reiterated its commitment to a vibrant creative sector, adding that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Administration will continue to support practitioners in the creative industry in view of their transformational roles in society.

Speaking at an event held on Wednesday at Allianz Francaise, Ikoyi, Lagos, to commemorate the 2024 annual World Theatre Day, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe said that the day is observed to showcase the vibrancy and significance of the theatrical arts.

Aregbe highlighted the importance of the World Theatre Day celebration, emphasising its role in spotlighting the contributions of theatre to entertainment and societal change.

He commended the objectives of the day, which include drawing attention to various art forms globally and providing a platform for theatrical groups to showcase their work.

The Special Adviser urged practitioners in the creative sector to explore collaboration opportunities with the Ministry, underscoring the importance of strengthening the bond between the government and the creative community.

The event featured a diverse range of performances but the major highlight of the day was the Lagos Council for Arts and Culture troupe showcasing a playlet titled: ‘Oshodi’, projecting Oshodi as a place of movement, prosperity adversity. The entertaining playlet also celebrated the transportation system of Danfo amongst many other theatrical performances.

Dignitaries that graced the event include the Chairman House Committee on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Honourable Solomon Bonu; and thespians in the movie Industry like the veteran Mrs. Taiwo Ajayi-Lycette and Kunle Afolayan among many others.
