House Defence Committee Chair Commiserates President Tinubu, Nigerian Army Over Death Of 16 Soldiers

Chairman, Committee on Defence, House of Representatives, Rep. Babajimi Benson, has extended deepest condolences to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief of Defense Staff, and the Nigerian Army over the tragic loss of 16 officers.

Rep. Benson in a statement on Sunday condemned the gruesome murder of the military personnel in the line of duty.

“It is with profound sense of sympathy that I join President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, Minister of Defence and indeed the Armed Forces of Nigeria to express my deep sorrow over the untimely demise of 16 courageous Officers and men during a peace enforcement mission in Okuama Community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State”, he said.

“The murder of these gallant soldiers in the line of duty is not only reprehensible but also a heinous act, whose perpetrators must be brought to justice.

“It is another ultimate sacrifice by the brave men and women of our Armed Forces to preserve the peace, unity, and progress of the nation”, Rep. Benson added.

According to him, the House Committee on Defense stands with colleagues and families of the fallen soldiers.

“The House of Representatives Committee on Defence stands in solidarity with the colleagues, friends, and families of the fallen heroes in this challenging time”, he said.

“Rest assured that the committee will continue to exercise its legislative powers in collaboration with relevant authorities to advocate for enhanced welfare packages, life insurance, and other benefits for members of our Armed Forces.

“May their souls rest in peace”.
