Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu, have expressed shock and dismay over the mysterious death of Mr Babatunde Tella, popularly called ‘Asiri’, a leader of the party in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria.
Tella, who was an active and popular politician, THE IMPACT gathered, died today.
THE IMPACT gathered that the late politician, who has been sick and hospitalized, returned home on Sunday, and was recovering until today when someone (name withheld) who is now a suspect and in police custody, allegedly sent messages that he is dead.
It was also gathered that there is a suspicion about his death going by the way sympathisers met his remains, which made people to conclude that his death is not natural.
We also gathered that the suspect, who some of those who are closed to late Tella, said has been acting in very suspicion manner towards the late politician, was arrested along with his friend.
Some of the early callers at the home of the deceased, also said that the way late Tella died as claimed by the suspect, further deepened their suspicion.
Speaking online with THE IMPACT, Hon. Sunmi Odesanya, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos on DAWN & Southwest Integration and a friend to late Tella, expressed shock over the news of his death.
“I am in shock over Tella’s death…..”, he simply stated.
APC Chairman, Ikorodu West LGA, Otunba Lawson, also in a statement, lamented, “Iroko wo!’ (Iroko tree has fallen).
“Iroko wo!! Gone too soon HON BABATUNDE TELLA. It saddened my heart to hear the news of your sudden departure!”, Otunba Lawson said.

“On behalf of the entire party faithful in Ikorodu West LCDA, I sympathize with the APC family in Lagos State, and the immediate family he left behind.
“Your unrelentness, boldness and courageous abilities will forever linger in our hearts.
“May Almighty God put an end to the untimely death in our midst, and console the family. Continue to rest in peace, Iroko”, the APC Chairman said.
In his own tribute, Chairman, Ikorodu West LCDA, Otunba (Hon.) Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju (SKO), FCA, FCTI, who commiserated with the family of the deceased, described his death as a rude shock.
“Council Chairman commiserate with the family of late Hon. BabatundeTella”, he said.
“It was a rude shock as I heard of the demise of a vibrant and friendly Honourable Babatunde Tella, fondly called ‘Asiri’, who died at the early hours of today.
“I console the family and party faithfuls who were on ground, and also advised them to allow the police do their thorough investigation in order to unravel the truth behind Tella’s sudden death.
“I pray to God to give succor to the family and the party, and give them the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss. May God comfort them at this period.
“May his soul rest in the eternal bosom of Almighty God”.
