Lagos Seeks Traditional Ruler’s Support Over Illegal Dredging Activities

His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu (4th Right), Hon. Yacoob Ekundayo Alebiosu, Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development (5th Right), Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya, the Odofin of Ikorodu (3rd Right), Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, former Commissioner for Agriculture (middle) and other senior officials of the Ministry during the visit to the Ayangbure palace.

The Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Hon. Yacoob Ekundayo Alebiosu, has solicited for the partnership and support of the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, Adegorusen V, in curbing the menace of illegal dredging activities along Ikorodu corridor.

Hon. Alebiosu made the appeal on Friday, when he paid a courtesy visit to the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, in his palace in Ikorodu.

The commissuoner explained that the State government has declared zero tolerance for illegal dredging in the state and is ready to flush them out given the adverse effect of their activities on the environment, infrastructure and life of the citizens of the State.

He noted that the decision of the Ministry to visit Ikorodu by water transport is deliberate to see and gather first-hand information on the activities of illegal dredgers in the axis.

The Commissioner stated that the Ministry has received a series of complaints from the public on the activities of the illegal dredgers and therefore the present administration is set to put a stop to their untoward activities on the Lagos Waterfront.

Reacting to the request of His Royal Majesty on the state of roads in Ikorodu and the need to have a rail line going from Ikorodu to Yaba, Hon. Alebiosu assured him that all his requests would be forwarded to the appropriate government authority for prompt action.

He added that the working tour of Ikorodu Division is part of his ongoing familiarisation and assessment tour of all the Ministry’s projects across the State.

Earlier, Oba Kabiru Shotobi promised the support and commitment of his people to the ongoing private Majidun-Awori Mixed Development Scheme approved by the Ministry to further bring development to the area.

While noting that on completion, the project will make the area another Banana Island and attract Investment to the area, the Oba solicited the assistance of the Commissioner to escalate the deplorable state of Ikorodu roads to the appropriate authority for prompt attention.

Projects visited by the Commissioner and his entourage included Offin Jetty at Ikorodu, Odo-Ogun Waterfront Scheme, Masonia Bay Island Scheme Island Scheme, Majidun Awori Mixed Development Scheme at Ikorodu FTB, Coral Estate at Lagos Mainland and White-Sand Jetty at Oyingbo Lagos Mainland.

On the Commissioner’s entourage were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Mr. Kehinde Gbajumo and key Directors of the Ministry.
