-Eti – Osa gets 12 cabinet slots

Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, Governor, Lagos State

Facts have emerged on how the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo – Olu, allocated nominees for his second term cabinet.

This was revealed in an official letter from the Office of the Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde, sent to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa, dated 7th August, 2023.

The letter detailed the local governments of the 39 nominees for the cabinet positions.

The letter, a copy of which was made available to THE IMPACT, is titled, ‘Re: Forwarding of Names of Nominees and Their Local Government Areas’.

“In response to your request above in your letter reference: LSHA/LM/C/594/13, dated 4th August 2023, I, hereby, present to you the Local Government Areas of the nominees, please.”, the letter stated.

Recall that the Obasa directed the Clerk of the House, Barrister Olalekan Onafeko, to write the Governor requesting for the nominees’ local government areas, last Thursday when the House setup a screening committee and deliberated on the 39 – man list sent by the Governor, following protests against the list by honourable members.

There have also been several protests from various divisions and local governments across the state protesting exclusion. On Monday, monarchs and political leaders in Ikorodu Division wrote the Governor rejecting the proposed list and demanded for at least 3 slots instead of one allocated to the Division by the Governor.

Leaders from Ikorodu described the formula adopted by the Governor as arbitrary and unacceptable.

The Ikorodu Division People’s Forum had also written to the Governor demanded for four slots.

According to the list sent to the Assembly by the Governor, the number of nominees from each Local Government are:

Eti – Osa, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) lost the last general elections, has the highest nominees with 12 cabinet nominations.

Lagos Mainland has three, while Badagry, Surulere and Lagos Island has two each.

Other Local Government has one each.
