Bishop of The African Church Bethel Cathedral, Ikorodu, Rt. Revd. Hezekiah A. Adetoro, has declared a 3 – day fasting and prayer for the congregants of the Church, to stem bad occurrences, especially deaths of members as experienced in the last two weeks.

The fasting and prayer starts today, June 12 and would end on Wednesday, June 14.

The directive is coming four days after the Church lost another former People’s Warden, Elder Taiwo Fakunmoju, popularly called, ‘SB’. He died last Thursday, after he slumped at the wake – keep service for his successor as the Cathedral People’s Warden, Snr. Assistant Brigadier General, Adeyinka Olawale Oyejola who died about two weeks earlier.

It was gathered that late Fakunmoju slumped after returning to his seat at the Wake – Keep ceremony, after speaking about his successor. He was said to have slumped on the chair, but was revived after some of the congregation discovered him.

He eventually died on the way while he was being taken to the General Hospital for proper care with two retired and one serving senior nurses who are members of the Church, accompanying him.

The remains of late Oyejola was interred on Friday, after a well – attended funeral service at The African Church Bethel Cathedral, Aga, Ikorodu.

In a statement signed by Bishop Adetoro, members of the Church are also to converge on the Church auditorium at 5pm daily during the three day fasting for a special prayer session.

“In view of the circumstances at hand, the Holy Spirit has directed that the entire congregation of African Church Bethel Cathedral, Ikorodu, should go into 3 days fasting and prayer for the following days: June 12-14”, the Bishop said.

“We are to converge on the church auditorium daily at 5pm for prayers. All church members are enjoined to observe this injunction asap.

“May peace be restored in our church”.
