The number one youth in Lagos State, Comrade Olalekan Biliamin Oba, has charged residents of Ikorodu to get their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) and vote massively the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Oba, who is the Chairman, Lagos State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the collection of the PVCs is important for Lagosians, towards getting at least 3million votes for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Presidential candidate of the APC and Governor Sanwo – Olu, Lagos Governorship candidate of the party.

The youth leader, who led other youths across the state, under the aegis of ‘Lagos Democrat’, spoke with THE IMPACT during the sensitization of residents of Ikorodu on the need to collect their PVCs and vote in the forthcoming general elections.

After converging on the Ita Elewa Youth Centre in Ikorodu, the youths marched through major roads in Ikorodu: Ita Elewa, Ladega/Maluti junction, Ejina market, Oba Ladega road, Itunmaja/Onisigida/Sabo road (now Otunba Adeniran Ogunsanya road) to Sabo market and other areas, to engage residents on the need to collect their PVCs.

“We are actually sensitizing; we are telling our people that it is very important that all of us come out to collect our PVCs. We all know that election is fast approaching, and we need to ensure that the votes for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos, are not less than 3million”, Oba, the Convener of Lagos Democrats, said.

“And aside that, we are actually saying that our ‘Mr Sellable’, our Governor, has done well and he has added a lot of values to the youth constituency, and that is why we are actually coming all out to ensure that we are not sitting on the fence this time around, but participate in the process of electing those that will manage our affairs. We want to continue to support a government that is working for the entire Lagosians.

Oba said that the sensitization exercise has afforded the team the opportunity to directly engage residents and educate them on some of the challenges that they are facing in collecting their PVCs.

“The truth is that; we understand that there are still a whole lots of work to do. We have listened to different complaints with some residents saying that their PVCs are not available at their centres, and we have been able to tell them where they actually need to go and get their cards”, he said.

“Most of them are also not aware that the collection of the PVCs has been extended to January 29th and after speaking with them, they assured us that they will go back to the INEC office and their Wards to collect them.

“We are telling them that they still have a window to go to appropriate places to pick up theirs PVCs, because without their cards, they cannot choose their leaders”.

He charged youths in the state to see voting in the February and March elections as securing their own future.

“The message is this (to the youths), if you are not voting, it means you are not ready for the future. So, every one of us need to start voting. Voting is not that you are doing anybody a favour, rather, you are doing yourself a favour by voting, because that is the only way for you to decide who leads you and who rules over you”, he charged.
