Rehabilitated Ikoeroy Ferry/Police Post section of the TOS Benson Avenue in Ikorodu after rehabilitation.

The Dangote/Ikorodu Ferry Terminal of the TOS Benson Avenue in Ipakodo, Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, which was closed for rehabilitation since October 2022, has been re – opened for motorists and other road users.

The road, which has been reconstructed with interlock and drainages on both sides, was closed until afternoon on Saturday, January 7, 2023.

It was discovered by our reporter who covered the flag – off of the Rep. Babajimi Benson’s re – election campaign on Saturday, January 7, 2023, that the road was still closed till around 11am, when he arrived at the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal venue of the event, but that the road had been re-opened when he was leaving the programme around 2pm.

The State Government, through the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederick Oladeinde, had explained when the rehabilitation works started on the road, that the stretch of the TOS Benson Avenue, was poorly rebuilt 10 years ago with poor materials and without consideration for the heavy duty trucks plying it. He added that lack of drainage system at the collapsed section of the road was responsible for the damages causing problem for the motorists and other road users.

Meanwhile, residents of the area have called on the Lagos State Government and Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area, to ensure that the Ojediran Street which served as the alternative route since October when the Police Post/Dangote/Ferry Terminal axis was closed, is also rehabilitated.

The road, which was constructed a few years back, has totally collapsed due to heavy vehicular movement experienced since October 2022, especially that of heavy duty trucks.

Another section of the road

Tony, who sells second – hand wares between the Ferry Terminal/Police Post axis, seeing our reporter taking pictures, said:

“Please, you people should help rehabilitate the Ojediran Street which is now impassable due to heavy traffic the road has been experiencing since the closure of the main road.

“Various sections of the road have collapsed and in no time, the entire street will be affected. It is important that the government embark on its rehabilitation”, he pleaded.

Another woman who also spoke, also pleaded for the rehabilitation of the Street to continue to serve as alternative link.
