DBard Creative Media Sets To Re – Enact Ikorodu Legend, Erelu Ota’s Story

The story of the Erelu Ota, the legendary woman whose history had her journeyed from Ikorodu to Lagos Island on a mat through water, is set to be re – enacted.

Waliu Adeyeri, a Playwright and Creative Director, DBard Creative Media, who has been researching into the history of the extraordinary woman who was very well revered during her time, will be presenting the script at the virtual reading of the historical work, titled, “The Heroism of Erelú Ota”, in preparation for a Concert Drama in 2023.

According to a statement by Adeyeri released Wednesday, the work is, “a story that re-tells the story of the legendary goddess in Ikorodu Kingdom”, which is scheduled for a virtual presentation on Saturday, December 10, 2022.

He said that authors, historians, script writer/producer and other intellectuals that will be leading the virtual reading are the Author of Orunsen and the founder of the Never Say Never Foundation, Princess Aderoju Ladega; Reporter-in-Chief of THE IMPACT Newspaper and an historian, Kunle Adelabu; the director and founder of Nurudeen Ibrahim Arts Foundation (NIAF), Mr. Ibrahim Nurudeen, and Mr Austin Awulonu, the Lead Consultant at Promocom Ventures,scropt writer and film produce among others.

He said further that the discussants will be assessing the scripts virtually, adding that it is important to show the historical importance of the ancient town of Ikorodu which is now the 12th largest city in Nigeria.

“As promised, my team and I are preparing a classic drama concert come 2023. In preparation for this, we are organizing a VIRTUAL SCRIPT READING & ASSESSMENT SESSION with intellectuals from Ikorodu Division”, Adeyeri said.

“The re-enactment of this story is necessary at this time Ikorodu is recognised as the 12th largest city in Nigeria and the 3rd largest city in South Western Nigeria. It becomes pertinent to show to the world that we are not just a city of people alone, but a city of legendary icons who have and are making impacts in the world.

“We will not just re-visit the story of Erelu Ota, we are embarking on a journey of self-discovery for Ikorodu indigenes through performing art,” Waliu added.

“The virtual script reading and review session will hold on Saturday, December 10, via Google Meet by 6 p.m. (WAT)”.
