Appeal Court Affirms Shittu’s PDP Rep Candidacy In Ikorodu

-As Awesu heads to Supreme Court

The Court of Appeal sitting at Igbosere, Lagos, on Thursday, November 17, 2022, affirmed the decision of the Federal High Court that Mr Abdulkareem Olugbenga Shittu, is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Ikorodu Federal Constituency.

Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, had in September, pronounced that Shittu as such following the decision of the PDP to send the name of Mr Abdulazeez Adekunle Awesu as its candidate.

A 3 – man panel of the Appeal justices dismissed the appeal of Hon. Abdulazeez Awesu against the judgment of the Federal High Court that gave the mandate to Mr. Abdulkareem Olugbenga Shittu as the candidate of the PDP.

Justice Bayero, who read the lead judgment, also dismissed the separate and different appeal filed by the PDP against Hon. Abdulkareem Shittu’s candidacy.

The court awarded damages against the party and Awesu

Meanwhile, Awesu has informed our reporter that he is challenging the decision of the Appeal Court.

According to him, the court failed to consider all the issues presented before it. He also argued that the matter Shittu brought before the Federal High Court was statue barred.

“I am not stopping at the Appeal Court because the judgment is not satisfactory. I am heading to the Supreme Court which is the apex in the land”, he told our reporter on phone.

The contender said that he hope to get fair judgment at the apex court.

In the same vein, the party members who were at the court, most of whom were supporters of Awesu, also expressed disappointment at the decision of the court.
