Adeboruwa Requests LASUSTECH Presence In Igbogbo

His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa (Oba) Barr. Semiudeen Semiudeen Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, has requested from the newly appointed Vice Chancellor , Lagos State University of Science & Technology (LASUSTECH), Prof. Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, for the presence of the institution in Igbogbo.

The royal father stated that the community has many waterfronts and thereby called for the establishment of Marine Department in his domain.

The request was made when Prof. Odusanya led members of the institution’s management team on a courtesy visit to the Adeboruwa palace on Wednesday, November 2, 2022.

“I am happy with the way you interfaced with us in Yoruba and not in English despite the fact that you are Professor. This show that you are a highly intelligent scholar. It is important for us to always promote our culture”, Adeboruwa said.

“I have seen in you that you a very calm person, perfect gentleman, reasonable and honourable person.

“All that you have told us are what we are expecting to hear from you and as an honourable person, we believe that you will work towards their execution and make the host communities benefit.

“Aremo Segun Ogunlewe has said all that are needed to be said and they are important because that is the true position of things.

“But, I must add that we are expecting the presence of LASUSTECH in Igbogbo in term of programmes for us to benefit directly. It could be an extension of one of your programmes because we have enough waterfronts here.

“We could have Marine Study here and we have enough space here to accommodate such programmes. On our part, we shall cooperate and support you”, Oba Kasali requested.

“We are happy to see you and your team”.

Oba Kasali offered special prayer for the VC and his team wishing them successful tenure.

Prof. Olumiuyiwa Odusanya , the LASUSTECH VC, speaking earlier, explained that the purpose of the visit to the Adeboruwa palace was to pay homage and seek for the cooperation of the monarch for a successful tenure that would be of great benefit to Ikorodu Division.

“I am sent here as the VC for LASUSTECH by the government now that the institution is now a University and we deemed it necessary to embark on visitation to palaces”, LASUSTECH VC said.

“We are here today to pay homage to His Royal Majesty; we are to ask Kabiyesi to accept us fully and support us to make our tenure a successful one that would be of great benefit to the Ikorodu Division.

The VC, who said that he has been a Doctorate holder for over 35years and Professor for about 15 years, said that he has observed that most communities hosting universities in Nigeria are not developed the way they are supposed to like their counterparts in the America.

“What we want is cooperation between the University and the community to bring about desired progress. We can only do this through cooperation and exchange of ideas”, he explained.

“We thank you for accepting us to the palace to pay homage to the king. Long may the King live”.

He assured the Adeboruwa of consideration for admission for recommended students that meet the admission requirement of the institution.

Aremo Adesegun Ogunlewe, the Aremo of Igbogbo and member of the LASUSTECH Governing Council, said that Ikorodu Division is proud to have University she can call hers.

While stating that Igbogbo, as part of the division, has its own independent traditional institution, Aremo Ogunlewe, who was a former Head of Service in Lagos State, said that the community will be expecting benefit in term of employment and admission for its residents.

“We are happy to have our own University that we can call our own in Ikorodu and we are happy for your visit and commend your decision to visit the palaces in Ikorodu Division on familiarisation tour”, he said.

“In Igbogbo, we still have our own traditional institution intact. This is a community that has been in existence long before the amalgamation of 1914 and whose ancestors originated from Elepe.

“It is an independent community with his own ancestors and culture.

“We will be expecting necessary benefits as one of the host communities from the University and on our part, you can be rest assured of our cooperation and support.

“Kabiyesi is interested in employment for Igbogbo residents; admission for our students and other necessary patronage”, Aremo Ogunlewe said.

The Odofin of Igbogbo, High Chief Tajudeen Alade Duduyemi Onasanya, on behalf of the Adeboruwa and entire Igbogbo community offered special prayer for the VC and his team.

He described the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) as a great privilege and development for the Ikorodu Division.
