I Have Hope In Court Of Appeal To Reclaim My Mandate – Awesu

Kunle Adelabu

Mr Abdul – Azeez Adekunle Awesu, who aspired to represent the lkorodu Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Abuja, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and currently at the Court of Appeal to reclaim his mandate of representing his party as its candidate in the forthcoming 2023 General Elections, has expressed confidence in the Nigeria judiciary.

Awesu said that he is sure of getting justice at the upper court following the withdrawal of his candidacy by a Lagos Federal High Court which consequently pronounced his co-aspirant, Mr Abdu-Kareem Shittu as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Awesu spoke with THE IMPACT after a rally, tagged, ‘Rescue March for Ikorodu’.

“I believe that the Appeal Court will look into the matter and give me justice”, he said.

“I am still the candidate of the PDP and I still have the INEC form with me. I am confident in the upper court. I am very confident and there is no course for alarm.

The PDP House of Representatives contender who said that the court judgment that denied him his mandate would not stand, also said that the march was a great morale booster for his supporters.

“I decided to go ahead with my campaign because we have to keep up our people’s spirit and the rally turned out very successful”, he said.

“They actually thought that the judgment would demoralise me and my people, but it did not. There is no way they would build something on nothing.

“The massive crowd that came out for me was because the whole party knows who has been there for them and who is really on ground.

“I hope that Mr Shittu would waste no more time in joining me in winning the election for our party.

“If peradventure, it happened that the upper court also denied me my mandate, then, the justice system in Nigeria has failed, but I still believe in the judiciary system and I am confident that I would regain my mandate to represent my party in the forthcoming election and subsequently represent my people”, Awesu said.
