Ikorodu West Supervisor For WAPA Mobilises Women For 2023 Elections

-Gets APC Senatorial, LGA women leaders’ commendations

In preparations for the commencement of the campaign for the 2023 General elections, All Progressives Congress (APC) women in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ikorodu Division of Lagos State has commenced mobilization in earnest.

The initiative, which is at the instance of the Supervisory Councilor, Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Comrade Salau Rukaya Ibikunkun Ajibike, was also used to further reconciled aggrieved party members and ensure that there is unity within the party.

About 400 women attended the parley tagged, ‘Let’s Work For All Our Candidates’, which held at the Ikorodu West LGA APC Secretariat along the Lagos Road, Ikorodu on Thursday, September 22, 2022.

Ajibike, speaking with THE IMPACT, said that she initiated the idea to charged party women on the need to embark on door – to door campaign to assist the party candidates to win the upcoming elections in Ikorodu.

She also stated that she planned to mobilise more women towards the elections.

“I invited women in Ikorodu West LCDA to talk to them and charged them to go out and talk to their people and also embark on door – to – door campaign for our candidates to win these upcoming elections”, she said.

“As you can see during the meeting, they all cooperated with us and ready to go out there to work for the victory of our party in the upcoming elections.

“This is not the first that we are doing this and I still plan to do more of this as the election get close and after the elections too”.

The Supervisory Councilor for WAPA also said that they have been able to listen to the women’s grievances and suggestions that would assist the party in coming out victorious.

“We have also heard from them too what they think we can do to win the elections. They have given us their own views and we are ready to work on their suggestions.

“After listening to our mothers, I am now sure that APC is 100% prepared for the upcoming election’’, Jibike stated emphatically.

Deaconess Wonu Aderibigbe Osinowo, Women Leader, Lagos East Senatorial District, who attended the parley and updated party women on plans for the electioneering campaign, especially for the Presidential candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commended Jibike for the initiative.

“This is a very great move on her part. I was surprised with the arrangement on ground. She really did well because there are lots of grievances among the party members which is splitting the party apart. With this move of hers, she has done a great job”, she said while commending the Supervisor for WAPA.

“Right from the state, we have been trying to do reconciliation and also at the local government too and doing this on her own volition and with her own money, I say kudos to her. I really congratulate her for what she has done”.

The Senatorial women leader who said that women are very important to the party’s electoral success, said that they are being educated on the need to canvass for votes through direct contact with electorates.

“We (women) are the people that always come out to vote and we can easily go to people’s houses and canvass them to vote, but men cannot do that. We have been educating our women on how to canvass and the need to canvass for votes”, she said.

“We have encouraged them to get their PVC and majority did that, now, we are tutoring them on how to use their PVC to vote so that at the end of the elections, we shall be the winners in all fronts. We want our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to emerge as the President and our governor, Sanwo – Olu, we want him to return. There is even no space in Alausa for any other party except for Sanwo – Olu.

“We also want our Senator, Sen. Tokunbo Abiru to go back to the Senate and Hon. Jimi Benson to go back to House of Representatives and our son, Ogunleye Gbolahan to the House of Assembly”, she added.

Women Leader, Ikorodu West LGA, Alhaja Risikat Bankole also commended Jibike for her intervention, while also calling on others to emulate her in assisting and encouraging women.

“We have a large number of women in Ikorodu West LGA and I have been calling those in government at the local level to join hands with me and assist in taking care of our women and I am happy Jibike has responded to my call”, she said.

“We need help for our women who are coming from far places to attend our meetings and contribute to the development of our party and I am happy that our Supervisory Councilor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) has responded. I thank her greatly.

“I want our women to start going from house – to – house to canvass for Asiwaju Tinubu Presidency and success for all the APC candidates in the coming elections”, she charged.

Many of the women at the meeting commended the initiator for bringing women together in the council to work for the success of the party’s candidates, while also calling on other party members to do so.

The parley was not only about talking as Jibike also made available bags of Semovita, snacks and drinks packed in branded bags which were distributed to all party members in attendance.
