Lagos Sports Commission Builds Games Teachers’ Capacity In Discovery, Nurturing Talents

As part of the efforts in implementing the Lagos State School Sports Intervention Programme (LASSIP), geared towards reinvigorating the school sports system, the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) has engaged Games Masters and Mistresses in capacity building training.

The training, which lasted for 3 weeks, accommodated 450 Games Masters and Mistresses across the state, at the Sports Bar, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

According to a release, the capacity building training which rounded up on Monday, was embarked upon to broaden the knowledge of games masters and mistresses on the modules of school sports on how to discover, monitor and nurture talents.

Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr Sola Aiyepeku, speaking at the last day of the training, said that it was designed to empower participants with more skills needed to teach the pupils in class.

He added that Sports can be seen as a business that is lucrative which will serve as income for them during and after Service, while the students can also pick interest in a particular sport.

Participants extended their appreciation to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for acknowledging the importance of physical education teachers in the state by bringing this initiative to them.

They appealed to the state government for the programme to continue.

At the end of each session, all participants across the six Education Districts were given certificates.
