Residents of lkorodu, especially thousands residing at Gberigbe and Agura, have, again, appealed to the Lagos State Government for the rehabilitation of Gberigbe/Agura Road which is one of the most deplorable road in the Division.

The road, which is usually impassable during raining season, has completely caught off residents who have now resorted to wading through the flood.

Many homes were also flooded due to lack of drainage system in the axis.

The state governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, had promised to reconstruct the road as phase two of the rehabilitation of Itamaga – Ijede road two years ago but there has been no sign of government’s readiness to commence the project who has forced many residents out of the community.

The road, which has made commercial drivers increased fares beyond the reach of average residents, has also collapsed the social and economic life of the area.

Also, a video on the social media, where a resident wading through the flood with others, was seen singing fuji music to appeal to the state government, has elicited reactions.

A resident of Gberigbe, Ogbeni Adewunmi Amusa who said that Gov. Sanwo – Olu earlier this year again, reiterated that work would commence and asked what is delaying the work further.

“Responding to Ikorodu residents’ feedbacks on On March 10, 2022, Sanwo-Olu announced that construction work on the second phase of Ijede Road, which starts from Ewu Elepe into Gberigbe, would commence on Saturday, noting that the Government and the contractor had sorted all issues delaying the road project”, Ogbeni Amusa said.

“Can anybody here help us to find out what is causing the delay in starting this project three months after?”, he asked.

Olubunmi Akilapa, a resident of the area, also commenting on the deplorable road on the social media, lamented that they are suffering while appealing to the government to come to their assistance.

Gberigbe residents wading through flood caused by the collapsed road.

“We are going through a lot on this road”, she said.

Another resident, Faunla Taiwo, while also appealing to the government, said:

“We are passionately appealing to the state government for quick intervention”.

Meanwhile, other residents in the area have urged residents to get their Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC,) and use it in voting for government that will bring sucour to their plight.

Latifah Fatoke, while stating that things would be well, charged residents to get their PVC in order to bring government that would listen to them to power.

“It is well. Get your PVC and vote right”.
