Gov. Babajide Sanwo – Olu.

While it is still cloudy if Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu will be allowed a second term, former State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Primate Charles Odugbesi, has kick started his re – election campaign.

The party leader is pursuing the campaign through his group, ‘Sanwo – Olu Continuity Group’, a platform which has started recruiting members on social media platforms, especially WhatsApp.

Sanwo – Olu, who was sworn into office May 29, 2019, still has about 13 months to complete his tenure.

While stating reasons for seeking a second term for the governor, Primate Odugbesi, in a chat, stated that allowing the governor for a second term would reduce political tension in the state and make Lagos have a united front to push the presidential agenda of the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

He also added that the performances of the governor, which according  to him, cut across all sectors, is another reason for his support and campaigning for him.

“Why I think we should support Sanwo – Olu for second term are:

“This is not the time to be struggling for two positions in Lagos State. We are trying to mobilize for Àsiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is coming out from Lagos for the position of the President. It would be burdensome to have multiple candidates for the position of Governorship at the same time. We can let the status quo remain”, he said.

“The present Governor is trying his best, even with the COVID -19 pandemic which literally demobilised every sector of our lives, he still manages to complete many projects embarked on by his predecessor.

“He has been able to achieve relative peace in the state. Lagos is not an easy place to govern. To have gone this far, to me, he has performed”, former State Scribe of the ruling party added.

He appealed to leaders of the party and those interested in the governor’s office to jettisoned their ambition adding that, the state cannot afford to clamour and push Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who was a former Governor of the State and the national leader of the ruling party with divided house.

“We have been hearing about some people who are planning to field candidates for the Governorship race in Lagos State. Some have been making moves to involve some high ranking leaders to achieve their quests. There is nothing bad for people to gun for good things”, Primate Odugbesi said.

“But it is good to do the right thing at the right time. This is not a time in Lagos State to have wrangling,  fighting for who will be the next Governor. What Lagos is gunning for is the highest position in the country, the Presidency. We cannot win with a divided front. So, it is better to rest one and struggle for the other”.

Primate Odugbesi, who said that he stood for Tinubu as President of Nigeria, charged members of the ‘Sanwo – Olu Continuity Group’ to embark on campaign for the re – election of the governor.

“So, it is our responsibility in this group to impress it on the minds of every citizen the reason why we should maintain status quo in Lagos State so that we shall have all the time to go all out for the actualization of our Symbol’s ambition from Lagos State, Àsiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu”, he said.

“Some of us who are gifted in writing can also help to write articles that can persuade our people to let us be in one accord. United we stand, divided we fall. We shall stand together and we shall not fall. Yes, we can and we will.

“Whatever we do today becomes history tomorrow. We should not allow any small thing to rob us of this great opportunity of producing the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We had missed it two times in the past, God will not forgive this generation if we miss it again.

“I stand with Tinubu for the Presidency. I support Sanwo-Olu for a second term”, he declared
