Rep. Benson Flags Off Majidun Road, To Deliver Road As Birthday Present In March

Rep. Babajimi Benson, Chairman, House Committee on Defense who facilitated the construction of Odubote/Ajanaku/Aiyegbajeje road which will link Oba Sekumade to Ikorodu – Lagos Road in Majidun/Ogolonto area of Ikorodu West LCDA during the flag – off on Monday, January 3, 2022.

The Chairman, House Committee on Defense, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson has assured the residents of Majidun and Ogolonto communities in lkorodu West Local Council Development Area that the road construction that he flagged – off on Monday, January 4, 2022, in the area will be delivered to them as its birthday present in March.

Rep. Benson flagged – off the Odubote/Ajanaku/Aiyegbajeje network  of roads in response to the protest by residents that the areas have fbeen neglected for development.

The link road, after completion, will link motorists and other road users from Oba Sekumade road (under construction) to Air Force base road in Majidun, thereby, reducing traffic on the Ogolonto axis of the Ikorodu – Lagos Road which is always chaotic.

And in appreciation of the gesture and his effective representation, the lawmaker was, at the event, named the Atuluse of Majidun and Bawaselu of Ogolonto by Chief  Alex Omoyele and Chief Oloruntade Fatola, both Baales of Majidun and Ogolonto respectively. 

Speaking at the flag – off, Rep. Benson said that he facilitated the construction of the roads because of the complaints by residents that the government and the party (All Progressives Congress), have neglected the areas, and added that the completion of the road will increase the value of properties in the axis.

He also said that he had twice planned to construct a borehole water project in the area but for the nature of the ground and resources it would incurred.

“This project is in response to complaints that the government and party has neglected Majidun and Ogolonto for long.

“It must be noted that I had planned to bring water projects to this area twice but for the nature of the area. Instead of that, I thought that roads are a major project that we can do and that will benefit the people.

“To confirm if that is what the council that controls the area wanted after agreeing with my Director – General, I called the Ikorodu West LCDA Chairman and he confirmed that construction of the road is very important.

“I requested for design details and other details and within 24hours, I received the chairman’s response. That was very commendable”.

The lawmaker also praised the Council Engineer for the design and response.

While seeking the understanding and cooperation of residents for the contractor that will handle the project, Rep. Benson assured them that the road will be completed in March if there is no problem.

He also stated that there is no provision for any compensation for anybody or any group regarding any demolition for the project, stating that that has been the situation in all the areas that he had facilitated road construction.

“I must make it clear just like we did in other areas that we don’t pay compensation for any demolition”, he emphasised.

“This road will not only be motorrable but will be completed with street lights in the next couple of months.

“I also need cooperation from residents for the contractor that will be working on the site.

 “If this happens, I can assure that I will deliver this road by March when I will be having my birthday”, he assured.

“The road will be an interlocking one that will stand the test of time against the concern raised that heavy trucks mostly plying the road”, he added.

Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, Chairman, Ikorodu West LCDA, commending the representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, said that he is continuing the legacy of his family.

“He is representing his family and people well. God will reward you for all the things that you are doing for humanity”.

An Apex leader in Ikorodu West LCDA, Alhaji Jamiu Adio Saka, also commended the federal lawmaker on behalf of the leadership of APC in the council area for his quality representation.

“On behalf of the Apex leaders in Ikorodu West LCDA, I extended our gratitude to Hon. Babajimi Benson for his representation.

“Honestly, I am not surprised at all because I know his father who had a great sense of accomplishments. I am very proud of your accomplishments across the division.

“He (Rep. Benson) is a golden person that must be protected by all of us”, Alhaji Saka said.

Mr Mondiu Olayemi, one of the residents that spoke at the flag – off, commended the lawmaker for remembering Majidun by facilitating the road construction.

He appealed to the contractor that will be handling the project to do a solid work because of the heavy duty trucks plying the road.
