National League Second Phase: Igbogbo Beach Soccer Team Depart For Kebbi

Members of the Igbogbo Beach Soccer Club unveiling the home and away jerseys on Sunday on their home ground in Igbogbo.

Igbogbo Beach Soccer Club (BSC) , also called ‘Adeboruwa Boys’, today departed for the second phase of the National Beach Soccer League in Kebbi State, in high spirits.

The league kicks off on May 13.

 The team will be joining Edo HCF, Kebbi, Badagry, Kaduna, Kwara, Smart City and Anambra BSC for the league matches which will be preceded by a two – day clinic for the teams between May 11 and 12.

Players of the Igbogbo Beach Soccer Club were in high spirits on Sunday (yesterday) during and after the completion of their final training as the players and the head coach pledged to secure maximum points in all their matches while speaking with our reporter who was with them.

After the training, the team unveiled their home and away jerseys. While the team will wear red and yellow for home matches,  white and green jersey will be worn for their away matches.

Mr Sunday John Egunjobi, the Head Coach of the team, said that the team is now playing very well compared to their performances during the first phase of the National League in Lagos

“Our team is now technically very sound because we have learnt from our past mistakes during the first phase of the league in Lagos. We are going to Kebbi with lots of iimprovements”, he said.

“By God’s grace, we are going there to get  three winnings and maximum 9 points. The teams that we played against in Lagos are great sides but right now, we are the best.

“Our players are playing very well now and are on top of their game”, he added.

Lawanson Oladapo Emmanuel, the captain of Igbogbo BSC, who plays in the central field and  the attack, speaking on the spirit in the camp, said that the team is excited going to Kebbi to win all the three matches.

“We are excited about traveling to Kebbi because we have been looking forward to this day. We have been travelling all this while and we are expectant and anticipating and today, we are finally going there to show what we are made of”, he said.

“We are better off the last time that we played in Lagos. We went to the first phase of the league as  weaklings because we did not understand the technicalities of the game but now, with the help of our Media Officer, Dolapo, and the FIFA badged Referee, Mr Jelili Ogunumyiwa, we are now equipped with useful tips about the game.

“We are better off now and we can’t wait to go out there on the field and prove our worth” .

The team captain, while blaming injury for the loss of their second match in Lagos, said that the Igbogbo BSC  will win all their three matches in Kebbi due to  the improvement in the team’s knowledge of the game and fitness of the players.

“People back home in Igbogbo and the entire Ikorodu Division should be expecting nothing less than 9points. The last time, we came back with 3 points and I was one of the reasons we were unable to win the maximum points because I suffered injury and was unable to play the second match.

Oluwadamilare Afeez, the first choice goalkeeper of the team and Oluwa Kazeem, the team’s attacker.

“This time around, with the tactics, techniques and the fitness level of our team now, we are 100% sure of victory and with God on our side, we are going to be victorious”.

Oluwa Kazeem, the team’s attacker who scored two goals in Lagos, said that fans should be expecting a minimum of 6 or 7 goals from him in Kebbi.

“Our people and fans should be expecting six or seven goals from me in Kebbi because we are gradually getting the techniques of the game.

“I am assuring that we are going there to get the maximum 9points because that is the essence of our training.

“With the high spirit in the team, we are all playing like lions now. We are ready for the game”.

Oluwadamilare Afeez, the first choice goalkeeper of the team, also speaking, said:

“I assure people back home that our net will be safe with the help of God and adequate training that we have gotten”, he said.

“We have been prepared in terms of ball throwing, communicating with my defense, supporting the attack and coordinating the whole team.

“Our people should be expecting 100% performance from us and we are going to get the 9points”, he assured.

Itunnu Oguntoyinbo, the second choice goalkeeper, also said:

Igbogbo Beach Soccer Clun during the final training on Sunday.

“I will try my best as a goalkeeper to make sure that our net is secured and also assist the team’s attack in scoring goals.

“I intend to make good throw, assist the defense and our attack.

“We are 100% sure to come out victorious with 9points”.

It would  be recalled that Igbogbo BSC played in Group B with Kada (Kaduna) BSC, Edo BSC, and Smart City BSC in the first phase of the 2021 Beach  Soccer National League season that was held between April 3 and 5, winning one game and losing two.
