Ikorodu Youths Hold First-Ever AGM, Appraise Performances

Dr. Fatai Abiodun Abatan, Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) and a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science, Lagos State University (LASU) (5th left), Mr Godwin Olaoluwa Oke, a member of the B.O.T and an Economist (middle) and other executive members of the Ikorodu Division Youth Initiative (IDYI) at the first – ever annual general meeting of the group held in Igbogbo on Sunday.

Ikorodu Division Youth Initiative (IDYI) held its first – ever Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, December 20, 2020, three years after its formation.

 The AGM, which  was attended by the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) and a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science, Lagos State University (LASU), Dr. Fatai Abiodun Abatan, was held at the Oba Semiudeen Kasali Hall, Rotary House, Igbogbo, on Sunday, December20, 2020.

According to the release by IDYI Director of Media & Publicity, Comrade Hameed Ganiu, the movement’s Executive Director, Comrade Samson Bisiriyu and Director of Administration, Comrade Olusola Sokoya, presented the report of the movement for the year 2020.

In the report, it was stated that employment opportunities were facilitated for 17 youths in Ikorodu division in the year under review.

It was also stated that IDYI in the year 2020 conducted a public opinion poll to measure the performance of the Chairmen in the six Local Government Area and Local Council Development Areas (LG and LCDAs) in Ikorodu Division.

Another major achievement of the youth group is staging the second edition of its Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Development seminar for the youths in Ikorodu and the facilitation of two – brand new sewing machines and a hair dryer for IDYI Students’ undergoing training at the Rotary Vocational Training Center, Igbogbo. The machines were donated to the group by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Lagos State, Ms Bisola Ruth Olusanya.

Also, as part of its achievements in 2020 is the distribution of COVID-19 palliatives to over 300 households during the pandemic lockdown period.

Dr Abatan, the B.O.T Chairman, in his remarks at the AGM, commended the executive team in executing new ideas and innovations.

The University don also applauded the team for initiating brilliant programmes that have impacted on the lives of youths in the division.

Mr Godwin Olaoluwa Oke, a member of the B.O.T and an Economist, also speaking, said that one of the factors that cannot be over emphasized in the successes of IDYI this year are the cooperation and unity among the members of the group.

He urged the executives and members to maintain the team spirit to record more successes in subsequent years ahead.

Other executive members of IDYI present at the AGM included Com. Adeniyi Sobajo, Deputy Executive Director, Com. Akemu Teniola, Deputy Directorate of Administration, Com. Hamed Olaniyi Ganiu and Oyebanjo Agboola of the Media and Publicity Directorate, Com. Olafare  Comfort, Directorate of Projects, Com. Olamide Oloyede and Comr Ahmmed Olayiwola Oloyede, Directorate Of Finance, Com. Deru Oreoluwa, Directorate of Welfare, Com. Taiwo, Com. Moshood and a host of others.
