Activities Resume For Non – Contact Sports In Lagos

In conformity with the recent permission granted by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 for the resumption of non-contact sports in Nigeria, Lagos State Government has granted permission for the resumption of activities of some sports.

According to a release, sporting activities in racket sports such as Badminton, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis as well as Track and Field events have commenced in Lagos State.

The Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Oluwatoyin Gafaar, while monitoring a training session by Badminton players at the Molade Okoya -Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, said that the state government was prepared for the resumption before the Federal Government’s directive.

He disclosed that the state government has setup an Implementation and Monitoring Committee for the compliance with the COVID – 19 protocols after the pronouncement by the Honourable Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare.

“The Committee’s major assignment was to bring back to action the sports which fall under the non-contact games as approved by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and, on a daily basis, monitor there trainings and activities to ensure non-violation of the set down rules for sporting activities during COVID-19”, he added.

Gafaar also disclosed that the Lagos State Sports Commission has lined up many events in anticipation of the post-pandemic period, scheduled for later in the year or next year.
