The Chairman of the Igbogbo Muslim Community and the Aare Adinni of the Igbogbo Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdul-Ganiu Kehinde Olubodun, on Thursday (yesterday) distributed food items to 200 families to assist in cushioning the effects of the current COVID-19 lockdown on residents of Igbogbo/Bayeku  Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

The exemplary social scheme was done in conjunction with the Igbogbo Muslim Community.

Food items such as rice and garri were distributed to the beneficiaries who were 60 years and above and cut across members of Community Development Associations, Muslim community, political parties and ethnic groups in the council.

While some beneficiaries picked up their packages at the donor’s house along Offin/Oreta road in Igbogbo, others had theirs delivered to them in their respective residences at Otugbuwa, Lajo, Orere Abosan, Selewu, Iree and Agunfoye communities among others.

Alhaji Olubodun, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the OlubeeTravels & Tours, speaking with THE IMPACT, stated that the gesture was his own little way of assisting those that are vulnerable during the lockdown.

“This gesture was borne out of the current condition of the nation right now. The Coronavirus has denied people the ability to go out and search for what to eat and use to take care of their families”, he said.

“The holiday that is being imposed on the people has started taking toll on them, especially the less privilege ones.

“I believe that I have to do this to give people and their families something to eat”.

He charged privileged individuals to rise up to the occasion and assist the less privilege by providing what they can eat for them and their families in this current situation.

“The government has stated that those with wherewithal should help others in this time of crisis. Not that I have much but I just see it as a call to duty because I cannot afford to see people with nothing to eat”, he stated.

“My message to those with more capacity is that they should see this current situation in the country as a challenge to do something better for the people”.
