Oriwu College Sets To Celebrate 70th Anniversary

The acing National President of Oriwu College Old Students Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN), Engr. Charles Longe, Sen. Seye Ogunlewe, former Minister for Works, Alhaji Safaru Aremu Sule, former National President, Oriwu College Old Students Association (OCOSAN) cutting the anniversary cake on May 29, 2019, when the school actually clocked 70 years with other chieftains and members of OCOSAN in Ikorodu

The premier college in Ikorodu division, Oriwu College, is set to celebrate its diamond jubilee anniversary of its existence.

The school, which was founded on May 29, 1949, has produced many individuals with state, national and international status and who have contributed to the social, economic and political developments of the country and humanity in general.

The anniversary is being driven by the Oriwu College Old Students’ Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN), the umbrella body of the ex-students of the school.

According to a release by Chief M. Labi Ishola Lemomu, Chairman, Media and Publicity of Oriwu at 70 anniversary planning committee, the celebration, which was earlier slated for June before it was postponed, will now hold between October and November this year.

“The week-long celebration will start on Friday, October 25, with Jumat prayer at the Ikorodu Central Mosque, while Saturday, October 26, will host Walk for fitness and Novelty match”, the release revealed.

“Thanksgiving service is scheduled for The African Church Bethel Cathedral, Ikorodu, on Sunday, October 27.

“On Monday, October 28, an event, tagged ‘A Day With Students of The School’, will feature a lecture on the ‘Effect Of Drug Abuse And Cultism On The Youths’.

Other programmes that will feature in the event as stated in the release are presentation of gifts and social interaction with the students.

According to the planning committee, all the old students are going to be in attendance must wear the school uniform.

There will be commissioning of projects by all the invited sets that have passed out of the school on Tuesday, October 29.

The grand finale is slated for Saturday, November 2, 2019, on the school’s football field.

“Among events that will be featured at the grand finale are fund raising for information and communication centre of the school, award presentation and anniversary dinner”, the release also  stated.

The planning committee is also planning to hold a world press conference to herald the week-long celebration in October.

“In this wise, we are making passionate appeal to all the old students, both in Nigeria and other parts of the globe,as well as government, private and corporate bodies, groups and public-spirited individuals to support the celebration of the anniversary of the first college in Ikorodu division.

“We want private organizations to sponsor some of our events with their brands and also assist with educational items for the students during the ‘a-day with students’ event.

“Another area that the planning committee is seeking for sponsorship is the walk for fitness where thousands of old and current students  of the school will walk from the school premises round designated places in Ikorodu”.
