Hundreds of members of the academic and non-academic staff of the Lagos State Polytechnic on Monday, January 21,2019, laid siege on the institution’s Council Chamber at its Ikorodu main campus where the Rector, Mr Samuel Sogunro, and other management staff members were holding a meeting.

THE IMPACT gathered that the staff members were protesting over alleged demotion and pay cut by the institution’s management.

It was also gathered that the siege lasted for hours and prevented the Rector and others at the meeting from leaving the Chamber until the arrival of men of the Nigerian Police Force from the Area ‘N’ Command in Ijede, Ikorodu.

The Union officials claimed that the management does not have the power to demote most staff members from higher levels to lower levels with the approval of CONTISS 15 Migration by the Lagos State government.

The demotion, it was gathered, affected members of staff from level twelve downward.

Efforts to get the reactions of the Rector, Mr Samuel Sogunro, and the institution’s Deputy Registrar (Information), Mr Lanre Kuye, proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
