Hon. Awolesi Gold Cup: Liwe B, Itundofin, Qualify For final

Liwe B and Itundofin Football teams have qualified for the final match of the Hon. Omotayo Awolesi Ward C Zonal Gold Cup.

 

The tournament, which is being organized by Owogaff Youth Soccer Organization, kicked off on Saturday, July 28,2018, with sixteen teams from different areas of Ward C which is being represented in the legislative arm of the Ikorodu Local Government by the sponsor of the soccer competition, Hon.Omotayo Awolesi.

 

Liwe B team defeated Liworu A in an epic first semi final match played at the Ita Elewa Youth Centre playing ground on Saturday, August 25.

 

The match ended in a 1-1draw at the end of the regulation time while a penalty shootout was played after the extra time also ended in stalemate.

 

At the end of the penalty shootout, Liwe B team converted 3 spot kicks to defeat Liworu FC which scored  2 spot kicks as the aggregate scoreline was put at 4 –3 respectively.

In the second semi- final match played at same venue on Sunday, August 26, 2018, Itundofin also defeated Liworu B by 4 goals to 3 to book the second final match spot scheduled to be played on Sunday, September 9, 2018.

Like the first semi final match, the match between Itundofin and Liworu B also ended 1goal apiece and after the penalty shootout, Itundofin FC converted the three spot-kicks, while Liworu B only scored two.

 

Speaking with our reporter, Hon. Awolesi announced that the winner of the tournament would be going home with N30,000 star prize money and while the runners up will receive N20,000.

He added that there are also prizes for the Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper and others.
