Account of Stewardship: Ikorodu LG Chairman Gives Administration’s 365 Days Scorecard

-Gives 120 students bursary awards, GCE forms to commemorate anniversary

Hon. Wasiu Adedeji Adeshina, the Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, has given his administration’s scorecard in commemoration of his performance in the last one year in office.

 

At a well-attended ceremony held at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat hall on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, the council helmsman gave account of stewardship in the areas of Works, Housing & Infrastructures; Agriculture & Social Development; Community Development; Women Affairs & Poverty Alleviation; Primary Health; Education & Library Services; Environmental & Waste Management and Staff Development.

 

The event was attended by His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, former Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, the Chairman, Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS) and a senatorial aspirant,  Alhaji Gafaar, former State Vice Chairman, APC Lagos East, Hon. Babajimi Benson, member, Federal House of Representatives. Alhaji Musliu Animashaun, Chieftain of APC and Alhaji Sheriff Anipole, former Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government among others.

 

120 students were given bursary awards and GCE forms by the chairman in his quest to assist their educational pursuits.

Hon Adeshina, who stated that his administration promised dedicated and selfless service to the people of Ikorodu, revealed that the promises have started manifesting with progressive approach to governance in many areas.

 

“We promised to be dedicated, hardworking and committed to the service of the people,and we have gradually given a progressive approach to the provisions of Social and Infrastructural Development, Regular Environmental Sanitation, Health Care Services, Maintenance of Peace and adequate Security of lives and properties and Revenue Generation among others” , the chairman sated.

 

He commended the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, for making Lagos State the economic and tourism hub of the country.

 

“I feel highly elated to state here that, within the few months of assumption of office, precisely on July 25th, 2017, the able Administration of Ikorodu Local Government has been able to impact lives positively in the areas of Social Infrastructure, Health Care Services, Maintenance of Peace and Security, Healthy Environment and Intensive Revenue Generation, among others.

 

“ In view of this, I want to intimate you with some of the projects accomplished by this administration. Among these are the followings:

 

“In the area of works, housing and Infrastructures, we have accomplished the followings: The extension of Box culvert at the entrance of Sabo and Kokoro Abu Junction, Reconstruction of Box Culvert at Sholafu/Olusesi Junction, Reconstruction of Box Culvert at Ajegunle/Owode, Construction of Drainage at Molupa, Surfacing of 139m Road at Molupa, Construction of drainage at Ginti along Ijede, Construction of drainage at AP junction in Mowo-nla area and Construction of drainage at Ewu-Owa in Agura – Gberigbe area.

 

“Construction and provision of interlocking blocks used to surface all the roads within Sabo Market. With this, Sabo Market has been transformed to a Modern Market in Lagos State, reconstruction of collapsed drainage at Itagbodo with the construction of box culvert, resurfacing of Obun-Oke,Itamito and Ita-aro has been completed, provision of modern Street lights at Itamito., Reconstruction of Ayanra street, Ikorodu and surfacing of the 139m Ayanra Road,Ikorodu.

“Rehabilitation of Adeyeri Owuyo Street in collaboration with Zenith Bank and renovation of the Honourable Councillors’ Offices.

 

“Renovation of the offices of the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) & Supervisors, de-weeding of the Council Secretariat , purchase of official vehicle for the Vice Chairman, A motorized bore-hole was officially handed-over to Ikorodu Local Government by the Senior Special Adviser to the President of Nigeria on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa for public use and Agura Primary Health Care Center has just been painted and equipped with beds while other gift items were presented to nursing mothers.

 

In the area of Agriculture and Social Development, “We observed 2017 International Day for Older Persons.This programme was hosted by this administration in collaboration with  Madam Testimony Foundation for the Aged.

 

“The event has been declared an Annual Programme by our administration and through this programme, we have been able to impact the lives of our Aged, especially in the areas of Primary Health Care and Social Activities.

 

“During the recent celebration hosted by the Local Government, we gave some cash donations to the organization.

 

“The Local Government partnered with the Federal Government for the In-House training of N-Power Agro Employees in 2017.

 

“Our Administration gives full support to the Neighborhood Safety Corps in the areas of ensuring safety and mobilization of stakeholders, including artisans, CDAs and political leaders.

 

Speaking on his administration’s impact on Community Development Assocaitions (CDAs), Hon. Adeshina stated:

 

“The Local Government embraces the activities of the CDAs and CDC  in our Community and maintains a partnership with them.Most of the projects embarked upon were done at the CDA levels.For instance, the collapsed drainage at ltagbodo was handed over to ltagbodo CDA.

 

In the area of women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the chairman stated:

 

“This administration sponsored one of our widows to the Lagos State Empowerment for the Widows held at the Chapel of Lights, Alausa, Ikeja.

 

“We also sponsored 13 women from our Local Government to participate in the Annual Conference of the Committee of Wives of the Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), out of which one of them won a ticket for a Trip to Ghana”.

In health sector, the chairman stated: “As we all know that health is wealth, in realisation of this, therefore, I have embarked on total rehabilitation of Agura PHC.The intention of this administration is to upgrade Agura PHC to an international level and making it  a modern PHC.

 

“During the year under review, the Local Government embarked on sensitization on LASSA FEVER and the outbreak of Monkey Pox. We also hosted, in conjunction with A+ Vanguard, the screening for Prostate and Cervical Cancer during which most of our men and women were successfully screened and given health care.

 

“Recently, we hosted the Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week, during which note books and other gift items were presented to mothers and babies.

 

“The Year 2018 Measles Vaccination Campaign (MVC)  was recently held by our administration and it made a great impact in fighting against the ‘child-killer disease’ called Measles while reducing the mortality rate in our Local Government Area.

 

“Our council also involved in the ‘Hope Alive Initiative’ which is the idea of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, who deemed it fit that Ikorodu Local Government Area must be one of the beneficiaries of his kind gestures. During this occasion, precisely on February 14th, the Ooni of Ife provided gift packs to the new born babies in Ikorodu General Hospital and these were presented with the assistance of the Executive Chairman and the Medical Team of this Local Government.

“The first round of the ‘National Immunization Plus Day’ was held in April by this administration. This Programme has been able to reduce the out-break of Polio to a large extent in our community.

 

“The Vaccination Campaign exercise is a continuous programme and the 2nd phase was recently held to eradicate polio in Ikorodu community.

 

“ More so, during the Maternal Neonatal and Child Health Week (MNCHW)  hosted by the council, children, under age five, were administered with Vitamin ‘A’ droplets.

 

Hon. Adeshina, while acknowledging the support of the Governor of Lagos State in the area of agricultural development, stated:

 

“Ikorodu Local Government will forever remain grateful to the Executive Governor of Lagos State for his support and good gesture towards this administration. A modern Fish Kiln was donated to our local government by His Excellency through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. This gesture has helped the fish sellers to improve their sales and skills.

Highlighting his administration’s contributions in the area of Education and Library Development, he stated:

 

“ It excites me to state here that our administration has continued to contribute in great measures towards the socio-educational development of our youths. During the celebration of our 100 days in office in the previous year, some of our indigent students were presented with bursary awards to mark the noble celebration. The beneficiaries were selected from various wards and were also carefully screened for the purpose.

 

“To mark the One Year in Office today, One Hundred and Twenty (120) GCE and Bursary forms will be distributed to our deserving students. This is important because students should also enjoy the dividends of democracy in Ikorodu.

 

“I wish to state here that Ikorodu Local Government will soon embark on the construction of new  and modern toilets along with the construction of fence in Salvation Army Primary School, Ikorodu.

 

In the area of Environmental and Waste Services, Hon. Adeshina stated that his administration has been effectively engaged in Mop-up exercise and Kick Refuse Out of Ikorodu.

 

“Mop up Exercise – This is a continuous general sanitation exercise during which some strategic dumpsites have been ‘cleaned out’ to prevent the outbreak of diseases in Ikorodu.

 

“Kick Refuse Out of Ikorodu – This has also been designed to keep Ikorodu clean from environmental nuisance. The cleaning exercise has marked the completion of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th phases during which many drainages and dumpsites were cleaned out and  bushes thoroughly cleared.

Speaking on staff development, Hon Adeshina stated, “It is my delight to see to it that all our junior members of staff keep abreast with civil service requirements by giving them the necessary training to be upgraded and more productive in discharging their official duties. It was for this reason that this administration held the three (3) days junior staff members training.

 

Oba Shotobi,while speaking at the event, stated that Hon. Adeshina and his team have performed.

 

“Adeshina is not just celebrating his performances, he is also celebrating the good people of Ikorodu”, Kabiyesi stated.

 

“Because he has performed, he’s been able to count his blessings, named them and documented them.

 

Prince Ogunleye, the former deputy governor of the state, also commended the chairman whom he stated is performing due to experience in management and public administration.

 

“You are all gathered here today to celebrate with him because he is your choice and that he has also performed to your expectations.

 

“He has been contributing to the development of communities in his capacity as administrator. He was a former Executive Secretary and now the chairman. He has also served in many capacities before now and these have helped him greatly”, the former deputy governor stated.

“I congratulate the chairman for a job well done. Ikorodu people should give him more time and the needed supports and I’m sure that he would continue to deliver”.
