Nigeria To Boost Power Production by 12,000MW With Dangote Pipeline

In Nigeria, the construction of Dangote group’s subsea gas pipeline is expected to generate additional 12,000 MW to meet demand, a capacity well above the average of 3,000 MW currently produced by the national grid.

Dangote group also plans to construct, near its refinery complex, a 570 MW gas-fired power plant whose completion is scheduled for 2019.

“I have made very firm commitment to Nigerians that I must stop the importation of petroleum products by 2019 and I am going to keep to it,” Petroleum Minister Ibe Kachikwu said during a visit to the construction site.

Let’s remind that Nigeria generates 7,000 MW of electricity but can only transport 5,000 MW while demand stands at 12,000 MW. In addition, due to low gas supply and weakness of transmission network the country only delivers 3,000 MW of gas to the population.
