Old Students Donate Common Room To Oriwu Model College, Honour Pioneer Chairman

The 1994/95 set of the premier college in Ikorodu, Oriwu College (now model) Old Students Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN), has donated a common room for the use of the  boarding students and staff of the school, twenty-three years after graduating from the school.

The Common Room, which is equipped with a 40inches Samsung television set, a DSTV decoder with subscription  and 20 benches, was handed over to the school management for the relaxation of the students on Thursday, May 10, 2018.

Education District II of the Ministry of Education, Lagos State, had, through a letter with Reference no: EDU/DIST II/042/VOL.2/117 and dated 12th March, 2018, approved the creation of recreational facility in the school’s hostels.

The facility was named after the pioneer chairman of the set, Late Engr. Amodu Rahman, who worked tirelessly for the completion of the project before his sudden death about a month ago.

Kunle Adelabu, the Secretary of the set and Publisher of THE IMPACT newspaper,  in his opening remarks stated that the donation of the common room was part of the old students’ efforts in giving back to the school which, according to him,  impacted positively on them.

He explained that the project was conceived, commenced and completed under the supervision of the pioneer chairman of the set, adding that it was  unfortunate that he died while planning for its commissioning.

Lanre Kalejaiye, the acting Chairman of the set, in his own remarks, stated that the common room is named after the pioneer chairman because of his commitment to the project and  sustenance for the set.

He informed the school management that members of the set are still willing to do more for the school.

Mrs Abiodun Ogunniyi, Principal of  Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, in her brief response, thanked members of the set for remembering their Alma Mata and also for deeming it fit to give back to the school .

She also assured that the facility would be put into good use.

The principal, on behalf of the school, sympathized with the set for the loss of its chairman and requested for the observance of a minute silence in his honour.

Other members of the set at the event were Abbey Shitta, Treasurer, Idowu Lawani, Ajiboye Adebayo and Salau Akeem
