Ikorodu Council Chairman Marks 100 Days In Office, Gives Burasry Awards To 100 Students

The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, on Thursday, November 23, 2017, renders the account of his stewardship to mark his 100 days in office.

The event, which was held at the Ikorodu Council Secretariat’s hall, also witnessed the announcement of Bursary awards for 100 students.

In his address at the event, Hon. Adesina  said that his administration had made laudable achievements in the areas of works, housing & infrastructure; Agriculture & Social Development; Women Affairs & Poverty Alleviation (WAPA); Primary Health Care; Education & Library Services and Environmental & waste Services.

“I am highly delighted to welcome you all to this auspicious day of the Celebration of the 100 Days in office of this administration”.

“I want to thank you all for your unflinching support and cooperation which have contributed immensely towards the actualization of our modest and laudable policies for the progress and development of Ikorodu”, he said thankfully.

Hon. Adeshina commended Gov. Ambode’s inclusive governance, kind gestures and supports for council administration in the state.

“I want to commend His Excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, for his Inclusive Governance which has brought the dividends of democracy to the people, and also for his continuous kind gestures, especially in the area of Provision of ‘Close User Group’ (CUG) handsets, which is contributing to the effective dissemination of information to  local communities on security”, he stated.

He announced that bursary awards worth one million naira would be given to indigent students across various institutions in the country.

“Our 100 days in office will be marked with the distribution of Bursary support, worth one million naira, to  indigent Students in Ikorodu as a mark of support for the progress of their education”, said the Chairman.

 

He further stated that his administration, within the last 100 days, has been able to accomplished a greater part of its development plans.

While rendering the account of what his administration has been able to do since assuming office in July this year, Hon. Adeshina stated that in the area of Works, Housing & Infrastructure, his administration has been able to do “the extention of Box culvert at the entrance of Sabo and Kokoro-Abu Junction, reconstruction of Box culvert at Sholafu/Olusesi Junction, reconstruction of box culvert at Ajegunle/Owode, construction of drainage and road at Molupa,  rehabilitation of Adeyeri Owuyo Street in collaboration with Zenith Bank, renovation of the offices  of the Honourable Councilors, Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) and Supervisors, De-weeding of the Council Secretariat and Ikorodu Cemetery”.

In the Agricultural and Social sector, Hon. Adeshina listed the organization of the ‘2017 International Day of Older Persons’, which he said his administration has made an annual event; support for residents during 2017 Eid-El-Kabir (Ileya) festival; Payment of Subvention to Central Development Committee (CDC) in Ikorodu Central; Training for N-Power (N-Agro); Mobilization of the Stakeholders to the 3rd Quarterly Year 2017 Town Hall at Badore and the successful organization of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Meeting.

More so, in the area of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the Hon. Adesina said “the administration sponsored one of our widows to the Lagos State Empowerment programme for the widows held at the Chapel of Lights, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos. We also sponsored 13 women from our local government to participate in the Annual Conference of the Committee of Wives of the Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), and one of them won a ticket for a trip to Ghana”.

“In conjunction with the Rotary Club International, Ikorodu Metropolitan, this administration celebrated the “World Polio Day”,we hosted the Community Sensitization on Lassa Fever and the outbreak of Monkey Pox. We also organized, in conjunction with A+ Vanguard, screening for Prostate Cancer where of our men and women were successfully screened and given health care”, the chairman stated.

“Recently, we hosted the Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week, during which Note Books and other gift items were presented to mothers and babies”, he added.

In the Educational and Library Services sector, Hon. Adeshina stated, “It excites me to state here that our administration has continued to contribute in great measures towards the socio-educational development of our youths. In view of this, some of our indigent students will be presented with bursary awards here today (Thursday), to mark this noble celebration of our 100 days in office. The beneficiaries have been selected from various wards and carefully screened for the purpose”.

Twenty of these students were presented with the bursary awards at the programme while the Council promised to give others in batches.

The Council boss added, “Also, we sponsored some women to participate in the Adult Literacy Quiz Competition held at the State Level”.

 

In the area of Environmental and Waste Management Services, the chairman said, “We have instituted a Mop-up Exercise which will be a continuous General Sanitation Exercise and through this exercise, some strategic dumpsites have been ‘cleaned out’ to prevent the outbreak of diseases in Ikorodu”.

“Kick Refuse Out of Ikorodu’ is another sanitation exercise designed to keep Ikorodu clean from environmental nuisance. The first, second and third phases of the cleaning exercise have been completed with many drainages while the overgrown plants and bushes around them were neatly cut”.

Also, the Chairman promised that his administration would not  relent on its efforts to vigorously pursue the promises made to the residents of the council and sought their support through the discharge of their civic responsibilities.

“I want to solicit for the maximum cooperation and prayers of all in order for this administration to achieve greater success and move Ikorodu forward”.

“I wish to equally enjoin you all to endeavor to fulfil your civic responsibilities in the areas of regular payment of levies and taxes, and also to shun all forms of violence and vandalism which breed chaos and confusion in the community”, he pleaded.

Meanwhile, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, Ayangbure of Ikorodu , in an interview with the reporters, enjoined Ikorodu people to secure second term for the governor of Lagos State and also give support to the administration of Hon. Adeshina.

 

“I will advise my people to secure a second term in office for Governor Akinwunmi Ambode by voting for him again and also assist and support the current administration in Ikorodu local government in every way” , Oba Shotobi said.

Some prominent personalities at the event included Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Gafaar, APC Senatorial leader, Alhaji Taiwo Longe, Chairman, APC Ikorodu, Alhaji Musliu Animashaun, APC leader, Mrs Adeola Rotinwa, who represented her husband, Alhaji Babatunde Rotinwa, Alhaji Lateef Afinni, Secretary to the Ikorodu Local Government among others.
