Ikorodu High School football team in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Friday, November 10, 2017, beat their counterparts from Ipakodo High School,Ipakodo in Ikorodu West LCDA, to lift  the 2017 Ikorodu-Oga Day Cup.

The final match, which was keenly contested by the two teams, was played at the Police Barracks Playing Ground along Igbogbo Road, Ikorodu.

This year’s competition was tagged, ‘Emancipation Edition’, by the organiser, Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS), led by its new Chairman,Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, a former Clerk of the Lagos House of Assembly.

Ikorodu High School player, Ademola Samuel, put his team in the lead in the 30th minutes of play with a powerful header which the Ipakodo High School goalkeeper, Olisademi Daniel, could not save.

However, Restless Obasi Victor ,who wore number 7 jersey for Ipakodo High School team never stopped tormenting his opponents’ defence and in the 50th minutes, his efforts paid off as he levelled the scoreline. His goal provoked wide celebrations from his teammates and fans.

The deciding goal of the match, however,  came three minutes to regulation time when Ikorodu High School player in  number 6 jersey, Isa Azeez, released a thunderous shot from outside the 18 yard box shot with his left foot which left Olisedemi rattling on the ground.

The Ikorodu High School team showed great tactical discipline throughout the pulsating match, while the Ipakodo’s team became weakened in the second half  as one of their key player in jersey number 13, Ezekiel Friday, was unable to resume for the second half.

It was, however, alleged that the player deliberately backed out because he was not eligible to play for the school and would have been penalized alongside his team by the centre referee, Oladosun Segun, if he had come out for the second half.

The assistant referees for the final match were Afinni Isa and Alagbe Adeyinka while Alhaji Lookman Shonibare was the Match Commissioner.
