-Hon. Agoro donates cash for her dialysis

More supports have continued to pour in for the medical treatment of Ganiyat Sanni, the 17 year old Senior Secondary School 3 student of Imota Community Grammar School suffering from heart problem.

Hon. Wasiu Agoro, the Chairman, Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), on Monday, June 3,2019, made a cash donation of N100, 000. 00 towards her weekly dialysis, while also promising that the council would make financial contribution towards her kidney transplant.

The council helmsman made the cash donation when he visited Ganiyat’s school in company of members of THE IMPACT Group special committee raising fund for the upkeep and kidney transplant of the victim.

Ganiyat has been diagnosed with the end stage kidney disease (ESRD), secondary to SLE, and needs regular hemodialysis (twice/ thrice weekly) and also expected to undergo transplant soon.

Hon. Agoro, while expressing his dismay over the failure of the management of Ganiyat’s school to inform the council about her condition, described the situation as embarrassing.

“I am here today with the team (The Impact WhatsApp Chat platform ) that is spearheading the campaign for the treatment of Ganiyat’s kidney disease.

“I chose to come with them today because they have been doing a good job in taking up Ganiyat’s matter as if they are her family.

“It’s a failure on the part of the school not to have brought the matter to the Council’s attention. We would have given support for the cause even though, we cannot handle the matter solely.

“The group that took up the matter is not event living in our community but they took up the matter.

“The situation is very embarrassing to us because we have to learn about it from the group. They have sent letter to us in that respect and also to the Governor, Senator, House of Representatives member and our Assembly members. They have also informed my colleagues at the council level about her condition.

“You people should have brought the matter to our attention and we would have done our bit as a council.

“As an individual, I will be donating N100, 000.00 for her dialysis while the council will be willing and ready to support the kidney transplant operation when the time comes”.

He disclosed that the council has been rendering support to people suffering from chronic health challenges in the council.

“As a council,  we have been attending to many of our residents with health challenges since we came on board  about two years ago . We have had to take up the operation of a boy who was fed through his stomach with tube. There was another person with a tumor among others”.

Mrs Funke Awoyemi, Chairman of THE IMPACT Group’s #SaveGaniyatSanni campaign, described Ganiyat’s condition as pathetic.

She charged the school to be more involved in assisting Ganiyat to get her normal life back by supporting the campaign team in getting the needed financial assistance for her transplant operation.

“Ganiyat’s condition presently is pathetic and she is experiencing excruciating pain .

“The school has not done very well by not keeping tab with Ganiyat’s condition. She is one of your students here and she is supposed to be writing her WAEC if not for her health condition. Her school mates have been visiting her but why not the school management?” she queried.

“Presently, she has been discharged from Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) where she had been on admission but has gone to a clinic for her dialysis which is twice a week.

“The dialysis can no longer be applied to her laps. They now have to fix it permanently on her neck because of her frail body”.

She explained further that Ganiyat requires $25,000 (about N10million) for a transplant surgery in India and about N8.5million if it is to be done in Nigeria.

Mrs Awoyemi stated that THE IMPACT Group has also made contact with a hospital in South Africa through a group which is providing funding for Ganiyat’s treatment but does not want its identity  disclosed.

“We have been able to contact a specialist hospital in South Africa through a group that is also helping us with funding for Ganiyat’s dialysis but we were advised that General Hospital in Abuja and University College Teaching Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan and one other in Nigeria can also do the job”, she revealed.

The Publisher/Reporter-in-Chief of THE IMPACT, Kunle Adelabu, enjoined the school authority to mobilize her alumni association and the parents’ forum to support the #SaveGaniyatSanni’s campaign.

He added that THE IMPACT Group, through its special committee, has been able to contact well meaning individuals and governmental bodies some of which have donated generously to the cause .

“We have been able to take her campaign to the public with many individuals donating to the two dedicated accounts that we are using for the #SaveGaniyatSanni’s campaign.

“Right now, we don’t have much time on our hand which is why we are soliciting for any assistance we could get because her operation has to be done as soon as possible.

“We appreciate the intervention Imota LCDA Chairman for his intervention and cash donation and also for the pledge he made on behalf of the council to support Ganiyat’s operation. We will also be willing to address the school’s old students association which has also shown interest in her situation”.

Mrs Runsewe S. E. W, Vice Principal (Academics), Imota Community Senior Grammar School, Imota, who stood-in for the Principal of the school, apologized for the lapses on the part of the school management over Ganiyat’s condition.

She stated that it did not occur to them that they should brief the council, adding that the school also got aware of Ganiyat’s condition in the thick of the last general elections.

Mrs Runsewe promised to properly brief the Principal on his return and that the school will work closely with THE IMPACT Group in assisting Ganiyat to overcome her health challenges.

She also promised the supports of the school’s staff members towards Ganiyat’s treatment.

Mr Gbotifa Abiodun, a teacher in the school who was attending to Ganiyat’s matter on behalf of the school, in his submission, stated that the school has been able to bring Ganiyat’s matter to the attention of the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II for urgent intervention.

Mr Ilesanmi Micheal, the Head of Mathematics Department, Imota Community Grammar School, commended the chairman and THE IMPACT Group for the their concerns and commitment to Ganiyat’s health .

“I want to thank our chairman, Prince Agoro. You have shown that you are a leader who is concerned about other people’s welfare. You are a worthy man.

“I also want to thank the group that has been responsible for the campaign. We pray that God will reward you all”,  he prayed.

Members of THE IMPACT Group’s special committee had visited Hon. Agoro on Friday, May 3, 2019, to discuss  Ganiyat’s health issue with him.
