Adekeye Ayomide Emerges Children’s Day Spelling Bee Winner

Miss Adekeye Ayomide, a Senior Secondary School 1 student of Sun and Stars College, Ikorodu, has emerged the winner of the inaugural spelling Bee competition in Ikorodu.

The event is in commemoration of the 2018 Children’s Day Celebration in Ikorodu division, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria.

She beat three other finalists at the grand finale of the competition held at the FunCity along Lagos Road, Ikorodu, on Monday, May 28, 2018.

The spelling bee competition, which was tagged “The Power Of An Alphabet”, was organized by ATOMA men in conjunction with Never Say Never Foundation (NSNF).

According to the organizers, the contest, which was among secondary school students in Ikorodu between the ages of 11 to 15years, is aimed at giving back to the community through educative engagement of the youths.

Thirty six students participated at the screening stage of the contest held on May 19, 2018 at Mudashiru’s house along Ireshe road in Ikorodu, with 17 students making it to the grand finale, out of which four finalists were further picked in accordance with their abilities to spell words correctly.

The trio of Akingbade Ifeoluwa, Hassan Rofiat and Alagbe Fareed emerged as the first, second and third runners-up respectively.

The overall winner was presented with school bag, scrabble, big dictionary, calculator and the historical book, Orunshen (The Source), written by Princess Aderoju Ladega.

The first, second and third runners-up were presented medium size dictionaries, calculators and books, while the remaining 32 other participants received pocket size dictionaries and motivational books and other book s written by Princess Ladega.

 

The programme was supported by Mr Toyin Gafar Bolowotan,APC aspirant for the Ikorodu Constituency I State Assembly Seat,  Hon. Adeola Adebisi Banjo, Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, Hon. Adeola Muhydeen Jokomba, former Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, Barrybration with Aolat, Eniolorun Farms, iCare Foundation, Hot DJ Kay, Savoury Touch Dry Cleaning, Azzex Catering, Quiver Discovery and Mega Xpression Magazines.
