After weeks of protests, counter-protests and keeping vigil at the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at ACME, Ikeja, party chairmen in the 57 Local Governments (LGs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) in the state have finally been inaugurated.

The 57 chairmen, who would oversee the affairs of the party at the council level, were inaugurated by the newly elected State Chairman, Alhaji Babatunde Balogun on Wednesday, May 30, 2018.

Barrister Ademola Sodiq, the APC state Legal Adviser, administered oath of office and oath of allegiance to the chairmen that were elected few weeks back in congresses across various councils.

The inauguration was coming six days after the new state chairman was inaugurated and officially took-over the reign of office from the erstwhile chairman, Otunba Henry Ajomale.

Among those inaugurated at the party’s State Secretariat were the six chairmen that were elected at the congresses held in the six LG and LCDAs in Ikorodu division.

Alhaji Taiwo Longe, who was before now the acting chairman, was confirmed as the substantive chairman of the party in Ikorod Local Government.

In Ikorodu West and Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDAs, Elder Olakunle Olakitan and Hon. Sefiu Ogunyemi were returned, having served one term as the party chairmen in their respective councils.

In Ikorodu North LCDA, the former Secretary to the Ikorodu North Local council Development Area, Hon. Abiodun Toyin Iyiola emerged as the preferred choice for the chairmanship position at the congress and was inaugurated with others, while Hon. Akinyemi Ramon and were also inaugurated as the party chairmen in Imota and Ijede LGA respectively.

Balogun urged all party chairmen in the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs to embark on a massive membership drive and also reconcile aggrieved members.

According to Balogun,“All chairmen inaugurated here today have emerged through democratic processes of Congress to show that APC is genuinely democratic.

“I implore you all to make membership drive in your area a needed attention; mobilize more people to register and as well claim their Permanent Voters Card.

He  also urged them to let benefits cut across divides to ensure the party’s victory in the general elections.

Balogun  equally urged the newly inaugurated chairmen to keep the certificates and the lists of members in their trust jealously from being snatched or stolen by the protesters or aggrieved members as doing so could be costly.
