Lawmaker Assures Defence Space Administration Of National Assembly’s Commitment To Expansion, Delivering On Security Mandate

The Chairman, House of Representatives Defence Committee, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, has assured the Defence Space Administration (DSA), of expanding its operational capacity and delivering on its national security mandate.

Rep. Benson, who attended the DSA’s inaugural Day and Seminar, themed, “Space Power and National Security”, gave the assurance on Friday.

The three – term lawmaker, representing Ikorodu federal constituency, emphasised the importance of space technology to national security and defence architecture.

“As Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence, I recognise that space technology is no longer a luxury but a strategic necessity for Nigeria’s national security and defence architecture. This also aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”

“From satellite-enabled intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance to secure communications, navigation, border monitoring and real-time operational coordination, space capabilities are critical to strengthening our Armed Forces, combating emerging security threats and protecting our territorial integrity.”

He added, “Investing inindigenous space capabilities, research, innovation and strategic partnerships is therefore vital to building a smarter, more agile and technology-driven military.”

Assuring the Defence Space Administration (DSA) of National Assembly;s support in attaining its mandate, Rep. Benson, stated:

“Through effective legislation, adequate appropriation and robust oversight, the National Assembly remains committed to supporting the DSA in expanding its operational capacity and delivering on its national security mandate.

Congratulations to the leadership, personnel and entire DSA family on this milestone. A stronger DSA. A smarter military. A more secure Nigeria.”
