After weeks of unveilings, tours, draw and other activities to herald the largest and most expected football tournament in Ikorodu Division, the 3rd edition of AMA Allstars Unity Football Championship at the weekend, kicked -off across various venues in Ikorodu Constituency II.
The opening games were kicked -off by the initiator/sponsor of the tournament, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA), the representative of Ikorodu Constituency II, Lagos State House of Assembly who was joined by three of the royal fathers in his constituency – Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, and Oba Adefarasin Saheed Hassan, the Alajede of Ijede, in performing the ceremonial kick -off.
Nine matches were played across Imota, Igbogbo and Ijede centres with 20 goals recorded. The goals, impressive victories, tight encounters and a goalless draw set the tone for what promises to be another exciting championship this year.
At the Imota Centre, the highly competitive game between IMOTA ALL STARS ended in a goalless draw with EXPLORER ALL STARS, while the second match between TIRA ALL-STARS and TRIPLE O ALL-STARS ended 0–3, with the winners of the encounter producing one of the standout performances of the opening week.
In the match between BE HAPPY ALL STARS and ABULE EKO ALL STARS, the away team defeated the home team 1 – 0, in a closely fought encounter.
At the GBOGBO/BAIYEKU CENTRE, It was an emphatic victory for IGBOGBO ALL-STARS which put 3 goals past OTUGBUA ALL-STARS net to start this season on a high note.
In the second game at the centre, MAKBET ALL-STARS recorded 1 goal victory over ELEPE ALL-STARS, while ACCORD ALL STARS also take the home advantage to defeat ALABIAMO ALL-STARS 3 – 2, in the most dramatic encounter at the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Centre
It was massive goal opener for the team of the initiator/sponsor, as the IJEDE ALL STARS walloped IGBALU ALL STARS 5 goals nothing, at the IJEDE CENTRE. The game recorded the biggest victory of the Week and a powerful statement sent to other teams in the competition.
In the other match, CMS ALL-STARS scored 2 goals to beat NWANNE DINANBA ALL-STARS, which was unable to respond at all, while OKE ELETU ALL-STARS also recoded an emphatic 3–1 victory over OFFIN ILE ALL-STARS.
