NUC Conducts LASUSTECH Mass Communication, Computer Science Unbundling Verification

‎Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) on Monday receieved the members of National Universities Commision (NUC) for the Resource Verification Assessment for the proposed unbundling of its Mass Communication and Computer Science Programmes


‎According to the institution’s management, the visit, is part of the NUC’s mandate to ensure that Nigerian universities meet the required standards before expanding their academic offerings.


‎The exercise is aimed at verifying the institution’s readiness to split Mass Communication into three distinct programmes. Broadcasting, Journalism & Media Studies, and Public Relations while Computer Science is to be unbundled into Software Engineering and Cybersecurity.



‎The NUC resource verification panel was led by Mr. Idris Omowale Ibrahim, with other members are Professor Uwaoma Kalu Uche, Ibu Simon Tertsegha, Professor Ibrahim Abdullahi, Mr. Bayero Ibrahim, and Mr. Chinegwu Kenneth Kenechukwu.


‎Welcoming the team, the Vice Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, expressed the university’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation. He disclosed that the institution currently runs 41 programmes.


‎ According to the VC, the successful unbundling of the two departments would increase the number of approved programmes to 46, further strengthening the university’s academic portfolio.



‎Speaking on behalf of the NUC team, Mr. Idris Ibrahim explained the purpose of the visit, stating that the panel was at LASUSTECH to verify the institution’s request submitted for the unbundling of the programmes.


‎The Resource Verification Exercise is expected to proceed with the inspection of the relevant human and material resources available for the programmes.
