The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Events Hub and a public commentator, Mr Tayo Odesanya, popularly called “Prof”, has also thrown his weight fully behind the representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, who has been enjoying an unprecedented support from the electorate and residents following a newspaper report alleging opposition to his 4th term return to the House of Representatives.
Many politicians including the entire six council chairmen in Ikorodu Division, political and social groups and other individuals have since the publication declared their support for the incumbent federal lawmaker openly.
In a statement sent to THE IMPACT on Monday, Tayo Odesanya described the news report, which the person who (allegedly) made the allegations against Rep. Benson facing challenges in his return bid has since denied making, as lies and mischievous which he initially chose to laugh off.
“A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes,” Tayo quoted one of Mark Twain’s famous lines.
“There’s no gainsaying that I’ve followed reactions to a mischievous report that recently made the rounds regarding the popular cum electoral acceptance of Hon. Babajimi Benson (MHR). Initially, I chose to laugh it off, as nothing could be further from the truth than such a hoax.
“In all honesty, I found it impossible for such shenanigans to ruffle his colourful feathers or dent the solid confidence reposed in him by the people.”
He said that he decided he suspended his dismissive stance of the report and chose to also declare his own support and align himself totally with the lawmaker whom he said has been nothing but unmatched in his representation.
“However, upon deeper reflection, I have decided to clearly and unequivocally state my position. I throw my full weight behind Hon. Babajimi Benson without hesitation. This stance is rooted in his unmatched performance as a legislator, his visible and impactful contributions to his constituency, and his undeniable constitutional right to contest the election.
“As rightly noted, “Criticism is the price you pay for leadership. If you want to avoid it, say nothing, do nothing, and be nothing.”
“Hon. Benson has never shied away from leadership, and it is no surprise that detractors attempt, unsuccessfully, to manufacture distractions. Yet, his record continues to speak louder than any false narrative,” he said.
He urged the general public to continue to show their support for Rep. Benson.
”I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the general public for their overwhelming vote of confidence in Hon. Babajimi Benson. Your continued support is both encouraging and inspiring. I urge you all to remain resolute and prepare to once again return him to office with unwavering determination and every ounce of your strength.”
