In a renewed effort to safeguard public health and restore environmental sanity, the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Tuesday, commenced a comprehensive intervention programme aimed at evacuating refuse from identified environmental blackspots across Igbogbo.
The exercise, carried out by the Department of Environmental Health Services, followed a clear directive from the Chairman, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, as part of the administration’s commitment to a cleaner, healthier community.
The intervention focused on long-standing refuse hotspots that pose risks to residents’ well-being and undermine the aesthetic outlook of the area.

Addressing officers and community members during the exercise, the Head of Environmental Health Services, Mrs. Akindunbi Comfort, expressed concern over the growing trend of indiscriminate waste disposal, particularly the conversion of undeveloped pieces of land into illegal dumpsites.
She warned that such practices expose residents to avoidable health hazards and stressed that the clearance of these blackspots remains a practical step toward curbing environmental abuse.
Mrs. Akindunbi also commended the Chairman for his proactive leadership, reiterating that a clean environment is fundamental to a healthy society.

Also speaking, the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Hon. Wasiu Olowu, underscored the damaging effects of refuse blackspots on both the environment and community life. He called on residents to see environmental cleanliness as a shared civic responsibility and urged them to report individuals who flout environmental laws by dumping refuse along roads on open lands or in public spaces.
Both officials further appealed to residents to take ownership of their immediate surroundings and to promptly alert the council to any environmental concerns. They assured the public that the council remains accessible and responsive to complaints, feedback, and suggestions, reaffirming the administration’s resolve to partner with the community in building a cleaner and more livable Igbogbo/Baiyeku.
