The sporting arena was also made livelier with old students’ race and dance.
At the end of the activities, Yellow House topped the medal table as the overall winner, while Orange House and Pink House came first and second overall respectively. A total of seven houses participated in the competition.

The ceremony opened with the march-past during which each house showcased discipline, creativity, and unity.
There were also inter-school relay races which involved students from invited schools. Government College, Ikorodu, emerged the winner.
The school principal, Mrs Iyabo Agnes Elusakin, welcoming students, staff and guests, thanked the old students, past school administrators and parents for their support for the school.
She said that valuable team and leadership lessons were instilled in the students through sports, and emphasised that success in sports is not about winning.
“Today is a celebration of unity, discipline, and sportsmanship. Sports are more than just games; they teach teamwork, leadership, respect, and determination. These are values that shape not only great athletes, but great individuals.

“As we gather here today, let us remember that success is not only about winning — it is about the courage to participate, the discipline you show, and the character you display on the field”.
She charged her students to make their participation in any event count, while expressing her appreciation to staff .
“To my dear students, today is your day. As you compete, do so with courage, discipline, and respect. Whether you finish first or last, what matters most is the effort you put in and the lessons you take home.
“To our dedicated teachers, thank you for your hard work in preparing our students. Your commitment continues to inspire excellence in every area.

“To our parents and guardians, your continuous support and your presence here today mean a lot. Thank you, and welcome.
“As we begin today’s activities, let us enjoy the excitement, the colors, and the friendly competition among our houses. May this event strengthen the unity within our school community and remind us that together, we achieve more.”
Chairman of the occasion, Sir David Sunmoni, KJW, Pro -Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU) who was a student in the school between 1968 to 1972, said that he was honoured to return to the school where the foundation of his life was molded.
“As an alumnus of this college, who studied here from 1968 to 1972, I am deeply honoured to return, not only as a product of this great school and as the chairman of this year’s event, but also as someone who has been privileged to serve our state and our nation.

“From serving as the Accountant-General and Permanent Secretary of Lagos State, to becoming the Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Lagos State University, and now a member of the Board of Justice, it is always a joy to return to where my foundation was laid”.
He too emphasised the valuable lessons inherent in sporting competitions, and charged the entire students to see themselves as winners.
“Today is more than a sporting event. It is a celebration of discipline, teamwork, resilience, and healthy competition. These values are not only found on the track or on the field, they are the very qualities that shape leaders, professionals, and responsible citizens who contribute meaningfully to the society.
“Sports teach us that victory is sweet, but they also remind us that, although, only one house will lift the trophy today, every participant is a winner for competing, striving for excellence, and respecting the rules of fair play. The true spirit of sports, and indeed the Olympic spirit, is participation and honourable competition.

“I urge every student here today to see this not only as a contest, but as an opportunity to build relationships, make new friends, set personal goals, and discover the strength within you. The discipline you show on the field today will echo in your academics, your career, and your future endeavours”, Sir Sunmoni said.
While commending parents and staff of the school for their care and support, Sir Sunmoni, who said that there has been additional houses to the traditional four that existed during his days in the school and for a long time, commended the old students for their sustained contributions to their alma mata.
“To my fellow alumni, many of whom I can see here, let us continue to give back to this college that gave us our foundation. I still remember how we used to sing our anthem during the march parade. Today’s march pass was impressive, but I noticed the anthem was missing. I hope we’ll revive that beautiful tradition.
“To the students, I say: dream big, run fast, play fair, and never forget that you are the pride of Oriwu Model College.

“Ladies and gentlemen, today is not only a celebration of sports but also of growth and progress. In my days here, we had only four houses: Adeboruwa House, Allison House, Ayangbure House and Benson House. Each representing the major rivers around us. I have been informed that three new houses have been added this year, giving more students the chance to participate and shine.
“I congratulate Alhaji M. M. Bolariwa House, my brother Ganiu Andrew, and Ladugba Ogunlewe, owners of new houses, for their contributions and development.
“Thank you all, and congratulations to every participant. May today be a memorable chapter in the history of Oriwu Model College.
