As part of her contributions to the annual Ipakodo Day Celebration, the Council Leader, Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Councillor Jessica Enitan Oba, on Wednesday staged the 4th edition of her street engagement initiative – Ipakodo Street Cinema in commemoration of Ipakodo Day and 65th Independence Day.

The cinema was screened at the Noah Street Junction in Ipakodo, Ikorodu West LCDA It attracted residents of the area who trooped out to enjoy their Independence Day evening with documentary film titled, “Hijack 1993”, which was about the hijack of a Nigerian plane which departed Lagos for Abuja in October 1993.

Four young Nigerians that were responsible for the hijack were members of the Movement for the Advancement of Democracy (MAD) who were protesting the political situation in Nigeria.
After hijacking the plane, they asked the pilots to fly the plane to Frankfurt in Germany, but due to insufficient fuel, the plane was forced to land in Niamey, Niger Republic, and after days of holding passengers hostage, they were subdued by soldiers and incarcerated in the country until their release in 2001.
Councillor Jessica Oba, who was attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) conference in the United States of America (USA), speaking with THE IMPACT online said that the film screening initiative is part of her contributions to the annual Ipakodo Day.

She also said that the idea is also to give residents of her ward and Ikorodu West LCDA in general and others the opportunity to enjoy a good evening with families and friends in a relaxed atmosphere.
She assured that the initiative would be sustained, while wishing the Sekumade of Ipakodo, HRM Oba Bashir Shotonwa, chiefs and the entire residents of Ipakodo a successful annual celebration.
Many of those that attended the film screening lauded the initiative and urged her to consider staging such during every festive period.

Among those in attendance at the film screening were Comrade Lekan Biliamin Oba, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Development, Hon. Adelani, Supervisor, Ikorodu West LCDA, Kunle Adelabu, Publisher/Reporter -in – Chief, THE IMPACT among others.
