The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Professor Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, has issued a call to action for the entire university community, urging a collective culture shift to build an indelible global brand as Nigeria’s premier University of Excellence.

In a statement by the university’s Director Information & Public Relations, Mr Lanre Kuye, he said that the VC delivered the charge in his keynote address to the University’s Congregation, during week.

Professor Odusanya outlined the institution’s vision to become a highly competitive, much- sought-after, globally acclaimed, world-class university, affirming that this is a concrete goal and not merely a slogan. He credited the significant progress already made to the strategic execution of the university’s IMPACT agenda, which has driven development across six key pillars over the past three years.

Highlighting the massive infrastructural transformation on campus, the Vice-Chancellor detailed ongoing legacy projects that are positioning LASUSTECH as a top-ranked institution. “Theuniversity is now a huge construction zone,” he stated, listing the new professorial building, central research laboratory, and multiple auditoria.

He also noted the recent commissioning of the Automotive Testing Centre by the NADDC as a testament to the university’s growing prestige.

Beyond infrastructure, Professor Odusanya emphasised the administration’s unwavering commitment to staff welfare and development, including the payment of promotion arrears, the implementation of the harmonised salary scale, and the revival of training sponsorships. He

framed this investment in human capital as fundamental to boosting productivity and fostering a prosperous university community.

Central to his address was the defining concept of the university’s brand. The VC challenged every staff member and student to embody the values of excellence, discipline, and innovation in their daily conduct. He questioned, “Who would want to partner with or support a university at war with itself, with negative stories in the media?” urging an immediate end to actions that damage the institution’s reputation.

A major highlight is the accreditation success of 25 undergraduate programmes, with 22 receiving full accreditation and three with interim status, alongside preparations for 14 more in October. The campus now boasts of new college buses, a zoological garden, and advanced laboratory equipment, reflecting a robust commitment to academic excellence.

Prof. Odusanya credited the university community for completing three academic sessions without major disruptions, stating, “We have completed three academic sessions without major disruptions. Teaching has continued to improve, and the resources for teaching and learning are continuously being upgraded.”

In a resonant conclusion, Professor Odusanya expressed profound faith in the community’s ability to rise to the occasion. “We all have a unique opportunity to write our names in the sands of time and make history as persons who were granted the privilege of being here at the start of a new university,” he declared.

Expressing absolute confidence in the community, the Vice-Chancellor closed with a unifying vision: “Working together, we can make LASUSTECH the best and most sought-after university in Nigeria in the near future. We cannot afford to fail.”

Lagos State University of Science and Technology is a pioneering institution dedicated to innovation, research, and academic excellence. Driven by its strategic IMPACT agenda, LASUSTECH is committed to producing globally competitive graduates and providing solutions to societal challenges.
