Flood: Aroyewun Receives State Delegation, Pledges Continuous Engagement With Residents

The Lagos State delegation led by the representative of Ikorodu Constituency II, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA) that assessed the impacts of flood which ravaged parts of Ikorodu Division on Monday were received in Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) by the Executive Chairman of the council, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA).

The heavy downpour which lasted several hours from Sunday night till Monday morning occasioned flash flood ravaging several communities in Ikorodu with Igbe communities, Oreyo, Ogunlewe, Selewu, Macaulay, Lajo and other parts of Igbogbo/Baiyeku seriously affected.

Other members of the high – powered delegation were Engr. Olukunle Rotimi – Akiolu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, and Engr. Muhammad O. Adegbite, Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services.

Recall that the Igbogbo/Baiyeku council boss early morning toured some of the affected areas to ascertain the level of the impact of the flood.

The team inspected key locations where blocked drainage channels, encroachments, and poor water flow systems had worsened the effects of the downpour.

According to the Chairman, the visit, provided an opportunity for practical discussions around policy reforms and sustainable infrastructural solutions to prevent future occurrences.

He expressed deep appreciation for the visit and described it as a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to grassroots development, while also assuring the delegation of his administration’s readiness to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to address drainage challenges and improve flood preparedness across the LCDA.

“We are fully aligning with the THEMES+ Agenda of Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and we will deliver on our own GLORY Agenda with the same sense of urgency and purpose,” Aroyewun stated.

“This partnership reinforces our belief that sustainable solutions must be rooted in shared responsibility and active governance at all levels.”

The IBLCDA chairman said further engagements with local stakeholders, environmental experts, and community leaders are expected to continue in the coming days, as part of broader efforts to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all residents.

The executive chairman also commended community members for their cooperation and patience, assuring them that their welfare remains central to every decision of his administration.
