The representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Rep. Babajimi Benson has welcomed the approval for the full completion of the 30km Ikorodu – Sagamu Road as a great news for his constituency.

The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, announced the approval among others across the country on Thursday.

In a statement by Rep. Benson who is the Chairman, House of Representative Committee on Defense, he expressed his delight at the approval which he said came after years of advocacy.

He described it as a turning point for the users of the road.

“I’m delighted to share that the Federal Government, through the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has approved the full completion of the 30 km Ikorodu-Sagamu Road – a vital federal highway connecting Lagos to Ogun State and beyond.

“After years of advocacy, this approval marks a turning point for the corridor that once took nearly two hours to traverse and now can be completed in under thirty minutes, thanks to prior efforts – though far from total completion.

“This roadway is not just asphalt – it’s the lifeblood of commerce, transporting goods between Lagos, Ogun, and the Northern hinterlands, while unlocking access to the Lekki-Ibeju Free Trade Zone, deep seaport and refinery belt,” he said.

The three – term lawmaker expressed his appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for granting the approval for the strategic road. He also commended efforts of present Senator representing the Lagos East Senatorial District and former federal representatives for their efforts over the road.

“My heartfelt gratitude goes first to our dear President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, a listening leader who appreciates the strategic value of our people in Ikorodu Federal Constituency and the socioeconomic importance of this project.

“Indeed, this is governance that hears, delivers, and uplifts.

“I also commend the tireless efforts of Senator Gbenga Ashafa (former senator, Lagos East Senatorial District); Senator Mikhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA (incumbent senator, Lagos East Senatorial District); Hon. Abike Dabiri‑Erewa, OON (my predecessor and now Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission), and my own contributions in this journey.

“This is the power of collaboration, vision, and responsive governance.”

Rep. Benson also thanked traditional rulers, respected political leaders across Ikorodu Division, the distinguished members of Oriwu Club, and the ever-supportive people of Ikorodu Federal Constituency for their unwavering support, patience, and understanding through the years.
