By Oluwole Solanke (PhD FCIB)

Dear Ambassador Ademola Oluseyi Onafowokan, KJW,

HE (Amb.) Ademola Onafowokan

It is with profound joy and admiration that I extend my heartfelt congratulations to you on the occasion of your 70th birthday. This milestone is a testament to a life richly lived, marked by unwavering dedication, remarkable achievements, and an enduring commitment to fostering unity and progress across nations. Your illustrious career spanning over three decades in international diplomacy and bilateral relations, combined with your esteemed recognition as a Knight of John Wesley (KJW) of the Methodist Church, Nigeria, stands as a beacon of excellence, inspiring countless individuals within Nigeria, across Africa, and beyond.

Your journey—from a scholar of Political Science and International Relations to a distinguished ambassador representing Nigeria in countries such as Russia, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom, and Ghana—reflects a legacy of service, wisdom, and impact. Your contributions to conference diplomacy and your pivotal role in multilateral organizations like the International Coffee Organisation, International Cocoa Organisation, International Tin Council, and International Rubber Study have left an indelible mark on global cooperation. Notably, your tenure as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ghana from 2012 to 2015, where you nurtured economic and social ties between our nations, remains a shining example of diplomacy at its finest.

As a Knight of John Wesley, your faith and devotion to the principles of the Methodist Church, Nigeria, have undoubtedly guided your actions, infusing your diplomatic endeavors with integrity and compassion. This sacred honor reflects your commitment to living a life of righteousness and service, both to God and to humanity.

As you celebrate this significant milestone, I am reminded of Psalm 90:12, which says, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Your life embodies this wisdom, cultivated through years of fostering human understanding, building bridges across cultures, and seeking sustainable solutions to Africa’s challenges. Your fluency in Spanish, your love for intellectual discourse, and your passion for games like golf and Scrabble reflect a vibrant spirit that continues to inspire those around you.

In retirement, your enthusiasm for international political activities and your commitment to finding solutions for our continent demonstrate that your heart remains devoted to service. As Proverbs 16:31 reminds us, “Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness.” Your life’s work, characterized by patience, teamwork, and a deep understanding of interpersonal relationships, is a crown of righteousness that shines brightly for all to see, further elevated by your distinguished title as a Knight of John Wesley.

On this special day, I pray that the Lord blesses you with continued health, joy, and strength, as promised in Isaiah 40:31: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” May your days be filled with the warmth of family, the laughter of friends, and the fulfillment of knowing that your legacy continues to shape a brighter future.

Happy 70th Birthday, Ambassador Onafowokan, KJW! May this new chapter of your life be as impactful and inspiring as the ones before it. Thank you for your service, your wisdom, your faith, and your enduring passion for a better world.
