Asiwaju Kaoli Olatunji Olusanya, the former Vice Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos East Senatorial District, has said that the visitation by the party’s state reconciliation teams to Ikorodu, aside from using it to appeal to aspirants that were not picked by the party, also served as a wake – up call for the flag bearers.

He said that the visit of the state leadership of the party with those in Ikorodu, has shown the candidates that they must be accountable if given a responsibility.

The party leader spoke with THE IMPACT during the week after the parley at the lkorodu residence of Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, the former Deputy Governor of Lagos State.

The reconciliation team was led by Dr Lateef Ibirogba, APC Organising Secretary, Southwest.

“What we have done today is a big achievement for the party. That we have been able to recognize all those that have shown interests in the party and bring them together; listen to them effectively; hear their own perspectives and input them as part of the planning process.

“When we do that, everybody will feel belonged and carried along and surely, it will result in good electoral performance. That is what we have done”.

“The meeting is also laying the foundation for accountability and responsibility. That you are responsible to a platform; a leadership group and that you also have to come and render accountability. You are not just on your own; you are not just there by the virtue of your energy, resources and capability and capacity, it is the collective support of leadership at various levels that has made you to occupy this position. It could have been anybody,” he said.

Kaoli, who is also the Chairman, reconciliation committee in Ikorodu Division, warned the candidates of the slippery nature of political offices and charged them to be responsible and accountable to avoid removal.

“So, appreciating that would make them know from now that they have responsibilities and must be accountable to the platform, and that is good for the democracy; that you are not just there to do whatever that you like. The recall process is still part of the clauses of the constitution.

“If you don’t do well, people will start to record your performance and if you do not change, they will come back here to report that you are not responding to the expectations of people and that you are no responsible to the people, you can be removed.

“It has happened before and it could still happen. So, that is another takeaway from what we have achieved today,” he said.
