Awesu Gets Labour Party’s Chairmanship Ticket For Ikorodu LG Election

Delegates of the Labour Party (LP) in Ikorodu Central Local Government, today, massively voted for Qs. Abdulazeez Adekunle Awesu as their candidate for the Chairmanship elections slated for July 12.

The young politician, who was the sole aspirant for the Chairmanship position on the major opposition party’s platform, garnered a total of 70 votes which was the total number of delegates that were accredited to vote, to be declared winner and returned as the LP’s candidate.

10 delegates from each of the seven political wards were accredited for the primary election which held at the Chief Adeniran Ogunsanya’s compound along the Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikorodu, on Friday.

After hours of delay due to non -availability of voting materials, the election commenced at 2:21pm, with the arrival of the party Chairman, Engr. Oloja Abdulazeez, and the Returning Officer, Mr Edmond Ebere Duah.

Delegates were called according to their wards to cast their votes one after the other and at the end of the process, the entire delegates voted Qs. Awesu as their candidate.

At the primary elections in Ikorodu North and Ikorodu West LCDAs, Hon. Oladeji Oluniyi Akinola and Hon. Ajose Obitade Omobolanle emerged as candidates respectively.

The entire 50 delegates that were accredited at Ikorodu West LCDA primary also voted for Hon. Akinola, at the primary election held at the LP secretariat beside Alaka Event Centre, Sabo, Ikorodu.

Meanwhile, Awesu, in his reaction shortly after his emergence thanked the party members for their resilience and support.

He said that members’ perseverance in the face of challenges and their determination to see the process through, has assured of their commitment to ensuring that LP wins the forthcoming LG elections in Ikorodu.

“I thank each and everyone of you so much, especially my business – oriented people that cannot afford to close their shops, but then, they did that today to be here since morning. It is obvious I have nothing to be scared about.

“They have their businesses to look after, but they stood by me despite the challenges we had to go through, and I greatly appreciate each and everyone of you.

“I am giving you my words that we will not have any cause to regret anything whatsoever”, he assured them.

Awesu also introduced the Coucillorship candidates of his party and his running mate to the delegates and other party members.

Engr. Oloja Abudulazeez, the LP Chairman, Ikorodu LGA, said that the elections across the councils were free and fair as delegates were allowed to determine who their candidates would be.

He said that his party is ready to take over the local administrations in the three councils that they have Chairmanship candidates, adding that a lot of people are tired of the ruling party’s imposition and bad governance.

The party chairman also said that LP believes in equity and justice system, and they are ready to care for the people.

He said that campaign will begin immediately after the primary elections.
