Lagos Launches Empowerment Programme To Equip Ikorodu Residents

The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Rural Development, has launched training and empowerment programme for 2025 in Ikorodu.

The initiative is designed to equip rural residents with essential digital skills, including website and blog creation, business branding for advertisements, and entrepreneurial development.

The training took place at the Ikorodu Local Government secretariat on Friday.

According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr Nurudeen Agbaje, the program spearheaded by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, is aimed at enhancing rural livelihoods while fostering economic growth and self-reliance.

More than 100 participants benefited from the hands-on sessions, which focused on branding, niche development, and social media integration. To facilitate practical learning, free Wi-Fi was provided throughout the training.

Certificates of participation were awarded to all attendees by the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD). Additionally, 20 outstanding participants received data packages to support the continued application of their newly acquired skills.

Describing the program as transformative, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, highlighted the government’s commitment to integrating digital innovation into rural development. She emphasized its potential to empower communities and drive societal progress.

Dignitaries in attendance included Mr. Musibau Muyiwa Balogun, CEO/Director of the Centre for Rural Development; Olusola Ajisafe, Deputy Director (Public Affairs) of the Centre; Hon. Adebowale Adebola, Leader of the Legislative Chamber of Ikorodu Local Government; Hon. Mutiat Fatuga, Councillor representing Ward B; Hon. Dimeji Sotonwa, Councillor representing Ward G; and Hon. Idris Shokunbi, Councillor representing Ward A, among others.
