A total of 24 teams are set to participate in this year’s Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairman’s Cup, designed to engage the youths, discover talents and bring about unity and peace in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria.

The tournament slated for United African Methodist Church (Eleja), Igbogbo will kick off May 1st, 2024

The draw for the tournament, which was held at the Council’s Marriage Registry Hall on Saturday, April 20, 2024, was attended by the Council Chairman, Builder Sesan Daini (represented), members of his cabinet, representatives of the participating clubs, coaches, members of the Ikorodu Referee Society and stakeholders.

Participating teams in this year’s competition emerged from different areas of the council, groups and political wards.

The Council Chairman, Builder Daini, who was represented by Comrade Abdul-Lateef Omotayo Odusanya, said that the competition is aimed at bringing youths together towards engendering peace and unity in Igbogbo communities.

He also appreciated the youths of the council for their willingness to participate in the competition.

“The competition started at the Peace and Security meeting, where we resolved to bring some of the boys being managed in the town and others together to ensure collectiveness and promote unity. It is an annual programme being rejuvenated”, he said.

“I want to appreciate the youths for coming out to purchased forms for their respective areas. In actual fact, some youth groups like those from Ibeshe called on the Chairman for intervention after they were told by the committee that entry has closed and eventually, they were able to be included after the Chairman solicited for them.

“I appreciate them for coming out to get the forms and build their own teams. I want them to take this opportunity seriously. This time around, the Chairman is involving corporate circle and those that are involved in football business. The giant sport betting company, Bet Naija, is also coming on board.

“This year’s Chairman’s Cup is going to be the best”, Builder Daini assured.

Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC), Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Chairman’s Cup 2024, Mr Obayomi Adeoye, said that aside grouping the teams, the draw ceremony was also intended to educate the teams on the rules of the game in order to create good atmosphere during matches.

“Today’s event was basically for draws to know the teams that will be playing and in which group. We also wanted to educate the coaches and representatives of the participating teams on the rules of the game which are usually changing from time to time”, he said.

“It is important to let them know the new changes to the rules of the game before the tournament kicks-off, to prevent misconceptions and challenging of referees’ decisions by players and team officials.

“This is necessary to prevent misunderstanding among the players, referees and the LOC, that is why there is need to educate them to have free and fair competitions”, he added.

Adeoye also charged coaches, players and spectators to be of good characters and behaviours during the competition.

“My message to the teams, players, coaches and even the spectators, is that this game – Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Chairman’s Cup being sponsored by the Chairman, Builder Sesan Daini, is the third edition and we have been improving. This year’s edition must be better than the last one”, he said.

“We don’t want to witness any negative reaction or attitude from any team that might discourage our good Chairman from continuing doing his good work. If he is encouraged by the outcome of the competition, he will be willing to do more good things for the youths of Igbogbo.

“Football is a big game and this competition is meant to unite our youths, engage them, and discover talents, and see how to assist and propel them to become better and professional footballers in future”, he added.
