Oldies Appreciation Game: Peter Rufai, Godwin Okpara, Other Ex-Soccer Stars To Grace Event In Igbogbo

The organizers of the Oldies Appreciation Game, an annual sporting events in Igbogbo, have confirmed that the ex – Super Eagles goal Keeper, Peter Rufai and ex –international, Godwin Okpara among others, will grace this year’s edition of the convergence of veteran players in Igbogbo.

Others confirmed for participation at the 12th edition of the game coming up on Saturday, April 20, 2024, are Wasiu Ipaye, Taiwo Oloyede and Jide Oguntuase.

Prince Ademola Ogunlewe (Oruma), Chairman, Oldies Appreciation Games, speaking on the event with THE IMPACT, said that the idea behind it is to use the stars of yesteryears to bring back the good old days when they played the round leather game, as well as mentor and inspire the young ones.

He also said that the avenue would provided opportunity for families to unwind and catch fun.

“Our intention is to relive past memories, while creating another set of memories”, he said.

“We want to celebrate sports veterans while also creating an avenue for unwinding, building network and fun families.

“The Oldies Appreciation Game is a platform created for family funfair where sports, leisure, recreation and entertainment happen in the same space.

“It is a programme designed to bring veterans in the football business together, and an avenue for the busy working class to unwind and network while with their family”, he said.

He said that entertainment will be combined with sports to bring about community building.

Prince Ogunlewe also said that there will be a medical outreach for residents of lgbogbo and food palliatives by the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA.

According to the planning committee chairman, a few sports heroes would be honoured with the assistance of the representative, Ikorodu Constituency II, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA).
